Should I name and shame?

Nothing or no one to 'shame'.
I think it's a pleasant response, too. You're fussing, OP.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
I am concerned that anyone should read that as anything other than a pleasant response, it is not unlike a response I would send in the same circumstances when I think I am being very polite . I may have to look to reword my automatic response to buyers who query items so quickly.
However, I do upload tracking in paypal, although many buyers claim not to notice that, so perhaps that makes a difference.
I don't read it as a pleasant response.... I think its quite sarcastic and rude if I'm honest. A better response would be;
"Hi X
Thank you for your email. The tracking number of the item is XXX/Unfortuantely we do not have a tracking number for the item. Due to the bank holiday and the distance the item is going to travel, it may take another day or two. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Y"
edit - But each to their own I guess. I suppose it might have sounded better in voice rather than an email.
edit2 - the OP's email quite clearly asked for a tracking number or a confirmation of dispatch, not that they hadn't recieved the item. This is why I think it is a rude response.0 -

bairn7 got the tracking number they asked for, which was not mentioned in the OP. The OP's 'email' wasn't an email at all and what they posted on here was from memory so maybe not so clear?0 -
Last night my Mrs was a bit upset, and it took a while to get to what it was about... she was upset by my 'tone' in a text several hours earlier. The 'tone' she read was pretty much exactly opposite of the very cordial 'tone' I had (thought I had) used - the medium stripped it away and her state of mind read it completely differently.
Email and especially SMS are terrible ways to communicate nuanced feelings!0 -

If the OPs message is correct in what they said, then yes, it is clear. The OP had simply asked for a tracking number or confirmation of dispatch. The reply however was a dig at the OP being impatient, whereas the message they claim to have sent indicates nothing of that.
Obviously if the OPs memory is bad and infact the message had been along the lines of "Oi, its f****ing Thursday, I ordered on Monday, where the **** is my package? Why did you send it by crappy Hermes!? I want a tracking number, please send it to xxx@yyy.com", then OK, the response was valid....
However, back to the original question, I wouldn't bother naming and shaming them, just not use them again.0 -
Is the package being sent from abroad???"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

The reply *in your opinion* was a dig at the OP. I and several others on this thread read it differently.
Also as you say, we only have 1 side of the story...0 -
I read it as a perfectly acceptable response. It is odd how people read things entirely differently, but it is a lesson to us all!!0

Come on folks, I can hear whoever replied sighing as they write.
The reply is having a dig whilst keeping it all nice. A nice wee bit of (not so subtle) sarcasm.
A nice reply would have been "Hi Bairn7, Parcel shipped Tuesday, tracking number is xx1234565. If you have any further queries, please get back in touch.0 -
As the OP asked for a tracking number, and got a tracking number I don't think there's any shame to be named.
Maybe the OP feels, deep down, that they were jumping the gun by chasing so quickly, and was oversensitive to the reply, finding snottiness when none was intended.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the parcel was received today - but we probably won't hear from the OP now that the parcel has been received in 3 days.
I find Mr Hermes to be very efficient - typically the parcels take 2 to 3 daysEarly retired - 18th December 2014
