There's no logical reason whatsoever to buy a new laptop lead. It doesn't increase risks of surges or whatever else you think is going to happen.
Is it indeed.
Some foreign sockets are upside down. Australia, for example (no pun intended.) With a standard UK plug plugged into an adapter, there is a significant amount of leverage with cable pulling from the top rather than hanging down. I have had the plug/adapter/socket combo arcing or falling out altogether. Particularly a problem in worn out sockets. For cost of about three quid (I can afford it, don't worry) the problem goes away.
However, I don't suppose your logic had considered that one.0 -
For Europe, I always take the address of the nearest Aldi, Lidl, 1 Euro store and chemist. I even have a google street map 'walk' around the area to get my bearings before arriving. This means I can always travel with hand luggage only and get the things I need when I arrive at lower Euro prices.

That's a good idea. I wouldn't do it for a big chain hotel but I'll try to remember it the next time I'm in a small guest house or homestay.
Of course it relies on you living somewhere pretty here...

So you buy new leads for everywhere on the off chance you end up in a place with upside down worn out plugs? Yes, I'm the one with faulty logic here...0 -

I never thought of a door wedge, but that's quite a useful one!
As well as the other things mentioned, I take some clothes pegs and ziploc bags. This year we're also taking some klippits (or similar) to seal large bags of snacks etc as we are on a road trip.
I also take a small container of hand sanitiser to clean the tray and screen etc on the plane."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0
