Money gone missing?

There is no missing roll number - where did you get this idea from?0

The account number, sort code and name on the account are all correct - there cannot be any discrepancy. The reference number is not the roll number - this has been confirmed.0

Post #1 seems to indicate that you were not sure if details you inputted were correct.
With a Building society is it not the case you have to input a sorting code account number and then a ROLL ACCOUNT number?
No there is no roll number. On the HSBC site there are a few boxes to complete which are:
 Name of payee: ME
Payment description: THIS IS WHERE I PUT MY NAME AND CURRENT ACCOUNT
 Payee sortcode: done correctly
 Payee account number: done correctly
Amount: the amount I wanted transferred
So, the option for a roll number doesn't exist, it asks for a DESCRIPTION of where the money is to go, which I gave accurately.
Incidentally I did exactly the same thing into a different account with the Halifax 4 days later and the money arrived there?
 Hope this helps0

You said you put your name in the reference. That is where the roll number goes.Payment description: THIS IS WHERE I PUT MY NAME AND CURRENT ACCOUNT
That is where you put the roll number when one exists.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. There is no roll number associated with a Nationwide Flex account. It is the same as any other regular bank account with a sort code and unique account number.

Thanks - there is indeed no roll number it is a standard current account which requires a sort code and account number which was provided correctly.0

Nationwide is a building society but is a member of The Cheque and Credit Clearing Company so has the same status as the clearing banks. A Flex account has sort code and individual account number. It looks like it is the only building society that is a member.

I wonder if OP has made a previous payment between these two accounts?
If not - a tip I always follow (even with repaying credit cards) is to send a small payment (say£5) to test the system before embarking on a big transfer.
I know not much use to OP now but for the future....?0
