Ugh, how annoying, Melly. My doctors were always late with my prescriptions so a couple of months ago I put it in a week early. They lost it...

I haven't, Pyxis! I do have a glass bowl that contained 3 cacti which then grew way too quickly and produced lots of offspring! So I have planted the adults in their separate pots and put the babies back into the bowl. This time last year we had no plants, 11 months later and we have 15! This is all WaSp's fault for lamenting that women never buy men plants. I obliged and now they are everywhere! What's worse is WaSp won't touch them, mind you it is probably a good idea because he only has to look at a plant and it dies...

Originally I bought WaSp one Java plant, a bromelaid that wasn't supposed to have babies for 2 years and the small glass bowl of cacti which was supposed to stay as a table centrepiece for years. The Bromelaid had 5 babies in the first 6 months, the Java has produced another 2 and the ones in the glass bowl immediately grew so big that they were practically taking themselves for a walk outside of it and produced babies as well!

I have always been very successful with plants, though. Another way in that I was a very odd teenager was that when I was 14 I started growing house plants. I would loving tend them and ended up with over 30 spider plants, cacti, pansies and geraniums. I like plants and plants like me and tend to flourish at rapid speeds! I did toy with the idea of a career in horticulture for a while, I would have enjoyed it. It makes me even more sad that I will likely never have a garden, not only could I grow food to help us financially, the exercise would be beneficial to my muscles, it would also give me a secluded place to be outside and I would thoroughly enjoy working in it.

Nice little comment to the lurkers there JM! It must be like a soap opera watching us gabbing on about all sorts. I hope people do feel they can join in though if they like.

I didn't want any incoming lurkers to feel that we were cliquey, with loads of 'in jokes' and long standing discussions which meant they couldn't just join in. Anyone! We talk about LOADS of stuff, and just join us - we are always up for new topics and to give new people squishes (gentle, reassuring virtual pressure wherever - little finger squishes to support those who don't really 'do' virtual hugs, for example).

WaS - if WaSP is able to get out, your local charity shops would probably love some baby plants to sell!

I read Martin's newsletter yesterday and have ordered a surprise selection of pug plants for the garden - excited to see what comes :D (If they grow pugs I will be VERY surprised! How is Sir Pugliet?)

Sleepy today. Contractions stopped again, not happy!
Got a builder coming in a bit to fix the hole in the nursery, finally. Just moved everything out of there ready and am now contemplating a bit of gardening before taking Little Sod out. I have to wait until after 9.30am before I can take him out as need to wait for most of the local dog walkers to be back home due to his antisocial nature. Although to be fair most of them b run a mile when they see us coming anyway!

I'm jealous of your green fingers WaS! Plants don't like growing here, weeds love it though!

Do I need glass cleaner to clean my windows? There is dog snot art all over them! Goblin nan used to say vinegar and newspaper but we have only got malt vinegar and magazines!

Very good point, JM. Although we all talk about subjects common to us anyone is welcome to join in at any time they wish. We will talk about whatever anyone else wants to! I love a wide range of subjects to discuss and am always open to learning more. For someone terrified of people I actually really like them and love chatting to others. My paranoia is that I am a horrid person and everyone will see that and hate me, I think most other people are lovely so please anyone feel free to join us! You will always be welcome.

That's a thought. I am staring at the Bromelaid knowing that the minute I remove the 5 babies that it is likely to produce another 5! Argh! We are simply out of room now, by the time I have finished every window ledge will be solidly packed. I was wondering about charity Christmas Fairs as well.

Sir P says hello and is sitting right next to me! He is never far away! Now I want a pug plant, on second thoughts I am sure that I could squeeze another in somewhere...

It has to be soon, Katy! She must be getting bored by now, surely?

Your soil might be the wrong type for the type of plants or have an imbalance if they won't grow. The trick is getting to know their needs and habits. This is the end of the repotting season for mine, soon they will sleep for winter which means only a little water and no food, just like hibernating animals. Then they will wake in spring so I will feed them and increase watering and they will grow and probably produce another group of babies. Plant care isn't hard if you look on them as living things just like pets, like everything they need food, water and to sleep, various amounts of each at different times of the year. In the case of my plants in autumn they wind down so you reduce everything, in winter they sleep so need very little other than to be kept warm, spring is their active time when they will produce offspring so they need feeding and sunlight to keep them strong and in summer they sunbathe as they grow so need more water and humidity. I also tell mine that they are pretty plants but nevermind that.

You can use malt vinegar to clean windows, just dilute it because it smells quite strongly. I am still hoping for a goblin.
