I use Wella SP balance scalp shampoo as I get itchy - also we have a water softener and it gets worse if the salt runs outI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

I have suffered with this for years finally got a great shampoo on prescription but you can also buy but expensive, it's Oilatum it is fab. I never found t-gel to do much good to be honest.0

I had this a fair few years back. I tried Johnson's baby shampoo, T-Gel - which worked for a couple of hours, then it was back to itchiness.
I used the Anti Dandruff Ginger Shampoo from the Body Shop and I haven't had the problem since. If you go to the body shop you may be able to get a free sample to see if it helps. I get the large bottle at about £8 but it lasts for ages as you don't need as much as most shampoos.0 -
Try the L'Oreal Elvive Anti-dandruff Shampoo For Men, in the black and orange bottle
It's currently on offer at Boots for just £1.99 for 400ml. It has 35 five star reviews on the Boots website!

It's got selenium sulphide in it, which is apparently very good for stubborn dandruff. I found it on a similar hunt after a recent flare up - I've only used it a few times, but the itchy flakiness has subsided quite substantially. Also, it doesn't dry my hair out terribly (though I always use conditioner anyway) or fade my colour, unlike Head & Shoulders.
Quick tip: apparently selenium sulphide may cause bleached hair to turn a bit yellow, but I read on a science paper that if you make sure you rinse your hair for a good five minutes after shampooing, it shouldn't happen.
Good luck! x0 -
As I have suffered from this for some time, I was pleased to come across this thread. I bought some of the T / Gel Therapeutic shampoo. I have been using it now for a few days and it really seems to be working well for me, I am very pleased with it.
I also decided to try the Body Shop Ginger Medicated shampoo. Yesterday I went to the Body Shop.I took a bottle of it to the counter to pay for it. When she keyed it into the till she said that it was on offer, three for two, would I consider that, so I did. I was also given a free ten pound voucher ! So rather pleased with that too.
I will try it and see which I prefer for long term use. If you are thinking about the Ginger stuff, this is a good time to buy some.0 -
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have been trying out the T / Gel and it seems to be working! Hopefully it will get better!0
