I want to sell it fairly quickly, thanks for the advice, I guess the new keeper pays the transfer fee once it's on retention?.0

That's one of the changes I referred to.
There is NO separate transfer fee any more.
It's all in a one-off £80 fee which now includes all stages of changing over a plate.0 -
Things have moved on a bit regards retaining a registration and the situation is a little different but much easier.
I posted this only yesterday:
It's now incredibly easy on-line.
Take off - https://www.gov.uk/keep-registration-number
You pay £80 and it's valid for 10 years - once the online application is successful, you can use the retention certificate which will be issued by post to assign the personalised registration to a new vehicle.
Again it can be done on-line.
Put on - https://www.personalisedvehicleregis...vehicle-lookup
I like the sound of this lets hope it works well, last time i changed my car the dealer was losing patience due to the delay cased by the reg transfer which took an age using the old system0 -
All that appears to have changed is the time limits and renewing. Everything else - the £80 includes the trandfer fee - is as before. Until the arrival of the Retention Certificate (which was never for 'as long as you like' ) you had to have it on another vehicle - I had 3 mopeds to store plates... boy was I glad when retentions came in.
If selling plades, ONLY go through a CNDA member - anyone else is risky.0 -
