If you shoot yourself in the foot because you answer without thinking you haven't been tricked, or least no more than when discussing with any salesman.
I am not going into ethics etc. What the person is doing is praying on individual's vulnerability. I am not expecting such question in these situation and if one is not prepared for such question then they will not give correct answer.
Now what impression this has given me about Dixons as business? I am going to think twice when I have to sell my house in future with them.
You are right in saying that there is way to divert the question by saying I need time to think.0 -
I think its inappropriate because you are trying to trick someone while doing business. Now you can say that's just business .. yes but not a good business practice.
I think the vast majority of businesses use 'psychological games' (or tricks, if you prefer) in their sales and marketing - whether it's EAs, car dealers, supermarkets, socialmedia websites etc etc etc.
If you don't like what the EA is doing, make it clear you're annoyed. If they see they're annoying lots of potential buyers, they'll probably stop.
Personally, if I was offended by the question, I'd be tempted to play games back, and give nonsense answers.
TBH - I suspect they are also looking for ammo to fire at the seller as well... "10 people have viewed the property, and they all gave 5 or less for price. So you need to drop the price."0 -
Hi,
- How would you rate this property for the price (1 to 10)
- How much would you pay for this?
?
1. Too expensive
2. What I think it's worth if I'm interested.
For any other questions. 'I'll let you know when I've thought about it.'
It might be a bit pushy but they hardly held a gun to your head.0 -
'How much would you pay for this?'
The market value
If the follow up question is
'...and what would you say that would be?'
Answer:
You'll need to ask an estate agent

I would have opened my wallet and counted how much cash I had and said "at this point in time, THIS much".0

When we viewed the house we have now purchased, the EA asked me at the time of viewing if we were to make an offer, how much would we consider.
I politely said that I am not willing to give a price,as we have not decided if we would like to make an offer. She didn't get the point and asked my husband who then said 'As my wife has said, we have not decided on whether we would like to make an offer on any of the houses we viewed today, however if we do, you will be the first to know'
EA will naturally want to gauge whether you have an interest, so they can give the sellers feedback.0
