Dixons agent asking for "How much you would pay"

Hi,

Not sure if this is a norm in other area. Recently viewed property through dixons estate agent. The person who was doing viewing (from the dixons) have asked
- How would you rate this property for the price (1 to 10)
- How much would you pay for this?

All this was at the time of viewing.

To me this was like putting me on the spot and I didnt really liked this.

Is this normal?

Not at all the norm, and I would have had the same reaction like you.

Who knows what stupid games are they playing. I would not take part in any cr@ap like this.

Edit: I think basically their goal was to put you in an emotional charged state and then to get as much information from you as possible, hoping that you would not have time or the mental state to think things through or in perspective.

At the time of viewing...no it's not appropriate.

Afterwards once you've slept on it and in a follow up phone call that would be fine.

Its advertised with a price but I need some time to think and research about it after viewing. Also discuss with mrs for e.g. I cant give any figure on the spot. Just put me off...

Not sure how best to avoid this at the time of viewing.
  • Weird.

I'd just tell them that this isn't an episode of Escape to the Country, and if they asked again I'd probably tell them to Frank Bough.

Yup, as I thought ... see me edited reply. I think its a aggressive sales technique. I would not give them any info, saying I need time to consider and consult with other half.

It's a new trend that seems to be catching on. I don't like it either. I met an agent who did this. Luckily for me, the property was ghastly inside, and smelly to boot. So, I rated it accordingly! I asked if she wanted a rating from one to ten... so one has to be the lowest, does it? No nought?

Mind you, I'd never tell the truth to an agent. I suppose I should have rated it a ten.

    Why should it be inappropriate?

You are playing a game and you should be able to come up with quick answers to unexpected questions.
Now, this does not mean that you have to answer the actual question but you should be able to quickly work out what to say, which includes saying that you will think about it.

I think its inappropriate because you are trying to trick someone while doing business. Now you can say that's just business .. yes but not a good business practice.

They are not trying to trick anyone. They are asking a very plain question.
If you shoot yourself in the foot because you answer without thinking you haven't been tricked, or least no more than when discussing with any salesman.

it's not so much what question is asked, more how the question is asked.
