?Howto Preserve NCD when leaving CompanyCar Insurance scheme

Hi, I'm coming out of a company car insurance pool soon (own car, company insurance). I'm looking around for an insurer who'll take my car on SDP or SDP+C and give me a standard NCD discount that recognises the nearly 5y claim-free driving in the pool.
I nearly left last year and got a Brokers Letter confirming the claim free period. But when I had a last minute look round I found very few insurers who would give NCD credit. Most said 'you have no NCD'. Some were willing to give a cash discount but then only offered 1y NCD at yearend (assuming another claim-free year). 'Equity Red Star' offered a formal 5y NCD @yearend but were v.pricey.
I'm also thinking of changing the car this year so "Driving other vehicles" insurance would be handy for the likely test drives.
Any thoughts?

ERS/Equity Red Star are a good insurer.
You need to weigh up. your company car NCD is useless to most insurers. Some will offer a 1 year intro some will mirror. But You don't have any private car NCB.
Don't screw down on price because you will be back complaining about Admin Fees when you change the car.
Oh DOC is dependant on the risk factor0 -
Mirror
They will swop your Company Car NCB for Private Car NCB
But even then there are pitfalls. If you leave they will only provide 1 year NCB
Best way to see it is the insurer is willing to discount to get your business.0 -

Do you have a Motorbike or a motorbike license?
Are you looking for someone who will mirror NCB? Or a good insurer?
In these circumstances I'd go for a broker, (Not Swinton) you can find a local one here http://www.biba.org.uk/consumerhome.aspx0 -

No motorbike for many years or, I think, license for anything above 125cc.
Really just looking to get my NCB back, so mirroring is the priority.
I last claimed on car ins in 1988 (i think) when someone rear ended the car when stationary @traffic lights. I doubt I'll be any worse a risk this coming year so the likelihood is I'm buying something I shall not use.
Cheap as poss looks to be the sensible solution.
So, (multiple) brokers is the only realistic route?0 -
If you have a FULL motorcycle license then give Carole Nash a try. http://www.carolenash.com/other-insurance/car
Biker only insurance,
If you are going to change your car. I wouldn't go for cheapest as they may sting with an admin fee (£50 or so)
Yes try a good broker, Generally you will get the likes of Markerstudy, Zenith, ERS, Aviva Broker only et al. One should be willing to mirror (I know ABC/Highway on certain schemes do mirror.)
Generally if the broker uses software that enriches quotes and mirrors NCB you could end up with 2 on their panel undercutting each other (I've seen 2 schemes at Ageas undercut each other to get business!)0 -
Simon, sounds sensible. I'll give it a crack. I've bunged you a few thanks for your trouble.0

I used esure but that was 2007 so I don;t know if they'll do it now.
I thought comparison sites had a dropdown after the NCD question so you could say how it was earned. Company car was an option.0 -
