Thanks for this - my understanding is that the anniversary month is based on the date of acceptance, rather than a calendar month, based on this in the T&Cs:

Your Card anniversary month is the one month period each year following the date on which your account was opened.

So, if I apply in mid August, even if I'm accepted immediately my anniversary month would be mid-August to mid-September. I can buy my season ticket up to 1 week prior to expiry, which would be 9th September at the earliest. Thus, a 15th August application should be fine.
