I flew last weekend with just hand luggage and there were loads of people doing that, I wish I had thought of it!!
You can also just buy one of the bag for life style bags from WHSmith in the airport for 5p (maybe a bit more now, I haven't done it for a few years as I'm used to packing lightly now).0 -

I only really put my blanket in it, & a few bits. It's also used as a pillow, & I put my feet up on it which saves the legs from hanging in mid air & aching so much.
Can't we take handbags then too?0 -

It depends on the airline. Most will let you but quite a few won't (mainly the ultra-low cost airlines).0
