Okay, tried pulling fitting and cable and nothing is coming out :(
  • Might be a shared transformer. Just to check the lamps are 12v?

    They are 12v Lamps
  • Got to be one then, may be shared among fittings especially if an older installation, can you post pics?

  • Unfortunately it's a case of following the wire to the transformer. Have you tried taking the whole fitting out or just the lamp?

The whole fitting appears to be stuck onto the ceiling :(

No, it's held in by 2 spring clips - you can just see them in the pic. Pull firmly, it'll come out, but watch your fingers.

I'm a time served electrician of 30 years but I'm at a loss to understand your problem..... Buzzing? the transformer won't buzz, it's an electronic circuit. There could be 1 per fitting (usually) or 1 feeding a few (unusually). Not a big bit of kit but not a "buzzy" thing in my experience. Older style dimmer switches can buzz, as they "waste" electricity as both heat and sound but newer "solid state" or "electronic" dimmers don't.

I really think the problems the transformer if you had fit LED bulbs some of the old ones dont like them but as they are Halogen I think the transformer may be failing as it could have suppression or capacitance to smooth out the 12V so at a guess its failing cousing noise I think your only cure may be to replace the whole fitting and with the 240v version as LED bulbs have come on loads on maintenance and life span so I would go for standard 240v and no transformer with LED bulbs . but I cant say this is the reason with out looking but unless its a make you can get replacement transformer it would probably be not cost effective .
