Okay, tried pulling fitting and cable and nothing is coming out0

Might be a shared transformer. Just to check the lamps are 12v?0

They are 12v Lamps0

Got to be one then, may be shared among fittings especially if an older installation, can you post pics?0

Unfortunately it's a case of following the wire to the transformer. Have you tried taking the whole fitting out or just the lamp?0

The whole fitting appears to be stuck onto the ceiling0

No, it's held in by 2 spring clips - you can just see them in the pic. Pull firmly, it'll come out, but watch your fingers.
I'm a time served electrician of 30 years but I'm at a loss to understand your problem..... Buzzing? the transformer won't buzz, it's an electronic circuit. There could be 1 per fitting (usually) or 1 feeding a few (unusually). Not a big bit of kit but not a "buzzy" thing in my experience. Older style dimmer switches can buzz, as they "waste" electricity as both heat and sound but newer "solid state" or "electronic" dimmers don't.0 -
I really think the problems the transformer if you had fit LED bulbs some of the old ones dont like them but as they are Halogen I think the transformer may be failing as it could have suppression or capacitance to smooth out the 12V so at a guess its failing cousing noise I think your only cure may be to replace the whole fitting and with the 240v version as LED bulbs have come on loads on maintenance and life span so I would go for standard 240v and no transformer with LED bulbs . but I cant say this is the reason with out looking but unless its a make you can get replacement transformer it would probably be not cost effective .0
