Replacing Glass Lampshades

Hi
I'm hoping someone will be able to help me understand whether I can find glass lampshades to replace some smashed ones - 2 of 4 were smashed.
The fitter hole on the existing lampshades is only 10mm and having spent hours on the internet, the smallest fitter holes I can find are 28mm.
I wondered if using spring loaded clips with a 10mm hole would work on 28mm fitter hole lampshades or am I misunderstanding the point of the clips?
I really don't want to have to replace the whole light fitting, but am happy to get 4 new glass lampshades, if I know I can make them fit.
Any advice will be much appreciated.

I'm finding it difficult to understand what you mean.
Can you post a photo?0 -
This is one of the links to the spring loaded clips -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/sis.html?_nkw=lamp+shade+clip+spring+loaded+3+prong+10mm+centre+hole
and these are very similar to the smashed lamp shades - these are slightly larger and with a larger fitter hole (my current lampshades have a fitter hole of only 10mm)

I basically am trying to work out if I can make the fitter hole on these larger shades 10mm ...0 -

I honestly don't know. I looked at both these sites for hours this afternoon, and I have absolutely no idea whether they help or not :rotfl:

With any of those that have a 10mm female thread should screw onto your fitting that you have the piece that takes the bulb has a nut that will unscrew to take any 28mm lampshade {glass or any other material} I would think that using them would be far cheaper {and save your sanity..lol} than trying to find replacement lampshades of the size you are looking for.
If it was me I would take a chance and invest in one to start with and if it fits then order the extras you require :0)0 -
Oh, Gawd! How thick am I?
The penny is just starting to drop...:rotfl:
Thank you. I'm now starting to understand what I'm looking at. Well, I'm understanding the principle.
What I can't now understand is how the small halogen bulbs will work with any of the connectors. The bulbs I can use are 20 watt G4 halogen bulbs like these -
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-G4-Halogen-Capsule-Lamps-Light-Bulbs-10W-or-20-Watt-12-Volt-2-Pin-/390614095413?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item5af26a1635
Any words of one syllable to explain will be much appreciated!0 -
See link below I think this is what would do the job :0)

Interesting...!
Many thanks for your help. I need to have a think!

I'm afraid 10mm isn't a common size for replacement glass shades - most fittings of this type come from China and are imported complete with shades. Occasionally an importer will have spares or be able to salvage shades from an electrically faulty fitting. Is there a label on the back of the fittting that might give a clue as to the manufacturer?0
