Di I need router AND modem?

    In my setup, I have a long cable run between the two boxes. (Because the phone socket and the TV are on opposite sides of the room).

    You just need standard Ethernet cable for this, if this is your issue, which can often be found in Poundshops.

    It depends.

    If you're using just the one computer with a wired connection, you should be able to plug that in to the modem directly without a router.

    If you have multiple computers and/or use wireless, you'll need a router. Routers create the WiFi signal, and they also allow one internet connection to be shared with multiple devices.

    One laptop using wifi, but close enough to use a cable. Am connected to power 24/7, simply because I choose to and realise that it won't do the battery any good long term. The wifi is used for my ipad and have a range extender upstairs.
