Did a data check, according to that what the dealer told me is wrong, it has a months MOT, but the tax ran out last month.
Before the dealers union gets outraged again, I know the new owner pays for car tax when they get the car now.
Correct me if I am wrong, but you can't road test a car without tax? What happens if plod pulls me over in an untaxed car?
Of course the tax 'ran out'. When it was sold, the remaining tax was automatically refunded to the previous owner. It only happens in whole months.
You haven't yet asked about insurance. The whole point of trade plates is to provide tax and insurance for cars in the trade.0 -
I'm not a dealer but would like to see the ad too.
Several people have been quite rude to you - it's possible you don't deserve that. Or possibly do....0 -
"dealer's union"...?0

This thread is exactly why many honest small car traders have jacked it in.0

So all your rants have been about ... nothing!

A small point but you can have trade insurance without having trade plates.0 -
OP I wont further stoke up your faux outrage by picking up every piece of specious wisdom but for example your assertion on behalf of everyone, "No buyer with commonsense is going to buy a dealer car without a test drive." Any idea how many people buy their second most expensive piece of household expenditure, new or second hand, and do just that?0

Have you ever heard the phrase "a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing"??
You have just said it has an MOT.
Only the new owner can tax it.
Trade plates are used instead of road tax when a vehicle is used for trade purposes, though you are not allowed to park up on the public highway.0 -

Yay!
So all this outrage over nothing at all!! :rotfl:
Dealer will use trade plates so it can legally be test driven.
TBH if i was the dealer i'd decline to sell you a car - if you're this "outraged" over something so simple, imagine how its going to be when you get a puncture in three months time - you'll make the dealers life a misery. :eek:0
