I didn't realise your 'human condition searching endlessly ....' only included white people in Europe.
Easy mistake to make.
Easy mistake, and you made it.
I don`t recall saying that Western countries had a monopoly on the advancement of the human condition, I think I used the words "best chance".“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
Salmond rebuked
Salmon, the SNP spokesperson on foreign affairs, showed an old-fashioned side of his character in the Commons when he said
"Behave yourself, woman" to Small Business Minister Anna Soubry.
He was of course defended by the SNP Shadow Minister for Funny Excuses.Union, not Disunion

Not defending him of course, but he is guilty of using local language and his something his generation would likely have said.
I've at times said to my mates to "behave yersel min" (behave yourself man) but to be fair, If I was addressing a woman, I would just say "behave yersel". The woman part in the modern day could be construed as condescending, but for a man, they take it on the chin. Why is that?
I recall in my youth while working in Yorkshire, getting annoyed when both men and women reffered to me as "love". I kept thinking, I'm not your love, but in the end accepted their localism as opposed to being offended by it.:wall:

No, just explaining local colloquialism and maybe, you just need to take these things with a pinch of salt as opposed to being offended by them:wall:

Good try ISTL ! No problem with what you say about local customs and so on; although I don't think Salmond was talking some local dialect, and anyway you missed the point.
Salmon was touted as the person who knew so much about the way Westminster works that he would "run rings" around everyone (although the sense or point of such claims escape me), so it's kind of amusing to see him get his comeuppance.
I look forward to the time when he talks to MerkelUnion, not Disunion

Reminds me of the time I suggested tot he father in law that we go to Manchester with the better halves.
when I said that the girls could go shopping, he immediately told me to "behave yersel min".
However when I proposed that at the same time we would go to Old Trafford, he thought it was a great idea:wall:

Interestingly, I came across this
House of Commons Hansard Debates for 05 Feb 2014Mr Speaker: Order. Mr Ruane, you are an incorrigible delinquent at times. Behave yourself man.
Should Mr Speaker have been rebuked and lauded as a sexist?:wall:

Should Mr Speaker have been rebuked and lauded as a sexist?
In making a clearly humorous remark to a person of his own sex?
No.Union, not Disunion

No.
What about this comment yesterday then ? Humorous ?Lucy Frazer MP for South East Cambridgeshire
"Cromwell who defeated the Scots at Dunbar enslaved and deported them - now there's an answer to the West Lothian problem"
So in light of your outrage over Salmond's comment, I do hope you can now finally agree that images such as this during the election campaign were sexist and deeply insulting to all female politicians, and indeed all aspiring young women thinking about entering politics.. and shouldn't have been used. Regardless of where the comment or image appears.
Otherwise, you're throwing stones in a glasshouse. It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?0
