Can anyone help please? I went into an o2 store today as I needed a nano sim card instead of a micro sim, for the iPhone 6 I have just bought. The salesman said that would not be a problem but urged me to take a more expensive plan with more data, as he said that with 4G, apps would be automatically updating all the time and with a higher screen definition, it would use a lot more data, using up my current 1GB monthly allowance in a week or two. He also told me I could rack up a bill of £300, like one of his customers did, because the warning texts sent by o2 are often ignored.
Is this the case or just sales jargon to scare me into spending more each month? Currently on 3G, I only use a fraction of my 1GB allowance each month, so wanted to check before doing anything.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Questions....there are always questions
Are you on contract with O2 , and did you buy the phone from them or is it sans contract?
Can you get 4g(from O2) where you normally use the phone?
It depends what package you are using eg Minutes+Text+data?0 -
The only snippet of truth is that if you watch youtube videos they may display in HD rather than SD if they detect more bandwidth, but if you use well less than 1Gb anyway I doubt you watch a significant amount of video. Can anyone help please? And apps update themselves when they get updated. I've never seen an app with separate 3G and 4G versions!0 -
I don't know iPhones but do their apps(iTunes) have the option to only update via wifi? The only snippet of truth is that if you watch youtube videos they may display in HD rather than SD if they detect more bandwidth, but if you use well less than 1Gb anyway I doubt you watch a significant amount of video.

And I guess there is an option to allow updating on wifi only....And apps update themselves when they get updated. I've never seen an app with separate 3G and 4G versions!
Rubbish....apps would be automatically updating all the time
Well, this customer must be a fool to ignore the texts. He also told me I could rack up a bill of £300, like one of his customers did, because the warning texts sent by o2 are often ignored.
Also, AFAIK at O2 mobile data stops working when you use the allowance, and you have to buy a new bundle:From My O2 app data usage:
"If you use up all your allowance, we'll send a text to let you know. We'll then stop your data access until your data allowance resets on your bill day.
Until it resets you can use wifi or buy a bolt on....."
This is the case of blatant lies to earn more commission. Is this the case or just sales jargon0 -

You can also restrict which apps have access to Mobile Data:
Tap Settings>Mobile and scroll down to Use Mobile Data For:
Tap on each application you wish to restrict to Wi-Fi and the toggle will go from green to white. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
Really, no sh1te sherlock is it semaphore then, I asked if they have the option to update only via wifi , I know my android has the option to only update when connected to wifi , but not being a fanboi I wouldn't know about iPhones. In which case they won't update over 4g. 4g isn't wifi.0
