No water coming out of cold water tap?

Options
Yesterday morning when I turned the cold water tap on in the bathroom it was little more than a trickle. Last night there was nothing! This is the tap in the basin - the bath taps are working, the hot water tap in the basin is working and the mixer tap in the kitchen is working. The broken tap seems a bit stiff when i turn it. So my questions are:
1. Whats wrong with it?
2. Do I need a plumber?
3. If this can be done by me (OH terrible when it comes to any kind of DIY), please bear in mind that I am only marginally better than OH (ie I will try!) and will need to know what bits I need to buy, where I can get them from (B&Q?) and what tools will I need (so I can borrow my dads tools!) and, obviously, a fools guide to doing it (or a pointer to a website).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • It sounds like the head gear is damaged, look here- Tap repair

And check out the sections on how a head gear works and how to replace an head gear. You can get a new head gear from most plumbers/B&Q/screwfix, they are often called tap revivers.

Sounds like it could be a damaged washer; try changing it -Tap repair website above, before replacing any of the metal parts
