Do you have a patio directly outside your back door? Is it in the shade from 12 noon til 5pm? I always thought that would be the case.

I believe in the very height of summer the sun is high in the sky and you would get the sun, but what about april/may?

We discounted lots of houses because they were north facing!

We have a lawn beyond the conservatory. Not a big one though, but the house opposite's garden backs onto ours so we don't have a house overlooking our garden and adding shade. It's a strip of garden with a house at either end.
The conservatory is hot is the daytime, possibly at it's hottest 2-5. The day we moved in in April it was too hot in there (some people like me are never pleased :) ).It may be different in winter but then nowhere is particularly warm in winter in this country!

One of the walls that's attached to one of your neighbours I would imagine! Unless there is a black hole on that elevation ;)

funnily enough my 'north-facing wall' isn;t affected by damp problems, poor light or mildew! :D

No s**t Sherlock!! Is that because of the neighbours house providing insulation or the black hole? ;)

Exactly. No north wall and no North wall problems.

Or you could just use your eyes, to note the position of the sun and time of day when you visit.

But you do have a North wall, it just happens to be attached to another house! That has the added benefit of insulating your North wall. I never insinuated anything different.

    Is this thread a joke?
  • It is possible to build a house with all four walls facing south, but you probably won't like the location. ;) (Hint: half the year, you won't get any sun at all)
