Why doesn't he stay in education until he has found a job?
If he can't get work, he'll get the benefit of the extra education; if he does, he can drop out of the course.0 -

As for my Stepson he is entitled to the child benefit until 31st December as he is in Full Time Further education till November, but this is not what we want ! He wants to cease his further education so he can register on JSA. I understand people saying get a job but whilst he is searching he is still entitled to JSA so to enable him to do that the child benefit needs stopping.
Don't forget to inform other people he won't be a student such as tax credits. I would have thought tax credits were higher than under 25 JSA.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

Yes tax credits are higher but he is adamant he wants to leave. At 19 sadly I cannot force him to stay on!!! Just had a thought though. I put in the original tax credits claim but included (her) as a joint claim. If I inform tax credits that he is no longer in education (as my name is on the claim) then surely they will inform child benefit and that will stop it? Am I right in thinking that? as the joint claim will be closed and I could create a new working tax credits claim.0

It might make them ask the question to CB, I don't know as going from joint with dependants to single no dependents may not trigger it.
Do you have children on your claim? If not then do consider it wil be based on different requirements.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
Like I said she has created so many issues. No I don't have any children on my claim but she has gone and left him with me so he is living with me. Does that not make him my dependant? I know not as blood but I am the one that he lives with.0

Not for TC as he's not in education. You may no longer be entitled to any TC depending on your circumstances and income.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

If you point out that he'll have to give you most of his JSA for his keep (as is its purpose) he might very well change his mind. At the very least, make sure he finishes this academic year.0
