Can I or My Stepson Stop His Child Benefit?

Hi all. Bit of an issue.
My Stepson wants to sign on JSA but is unable to do so as (his so called Mother) still receives child benefit for him.
The thing is my wife is the one that has the child benefit claim for him but she did a runner with another bloke 2 weeks ago, has stated she doesn't know her Son, but is unwilling to stop the claim as it goes into her bank account.
So....
Can I stop it? or Can my Stepson(19) as the payment is for him if one of us explains the situation that his ******* Mother won't or is it only her that can stop it?
As stated whilst the claim is still active he cannot sign on JSA!
Help appreciated as always.
Sorry for the stars but she has created so many issues for me and my Stepson!

If she won't give if up voluntarily it could take some time to sort out fully. She could claim she is intending to have her son go and live with her.
I think either you, or your stepson, needs to phone Child Benefit and explain the situation and find out the best way to progress. Although you are clearly understandably bitter about the current situation keep the discussion with Child Benefit factual.0 -
Probably not, they couldn't stop my sons biological mother with no legal ties to him from claiming CB in 16 years!0

How old is he and what is his educational position?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Tell him to get a job.
She will then not be able to claim itmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
19! She is already committing fraud just get him to sign on and they will sort it. Just get hi to say nobody should be claiming fo r me.0

OP Is the step son not still a student?
If he wants to claim JSA I presume not.0 -
It also depends when the step son stopped full time education. it could be that the child benefit is still payable until the end of May.

Obviously there needs to be some communication here. She only left 2 weeks ago!0 -
Update. I now have access to the money so she is not witholding it. As for my Stepson he is entitled to the child benefit until 31st December as he is in Full Time Further education till November, but this is not what we want ! He wants to cease his further education so he can register on JSA. I understand people saying get a job but whilst he is searching he is still entitled to JSA so to enable him to do that the child benefit needs stopping.0
