towels - confused!!

Options
I normally just bought towels from Tesco. Last set I got was 3yrs ago. I wash them every week so they are worn out now.

If im buying towels once in 2-3 yrs, I thought i might as well get good quality ones

is 500 GSM good quality? I dont want super thick ones that take ages to dry out .

Any suggestions? Are towels good at House of Fraser?

Always bought Christy towels, usually in their sale.

You don't need to wash them so often. I bet they're not dirty after a week, you just feel that "that's what people do and I don't want people to think I'm dirty".

Wash towels when they're dirty .... one should be clean before using a towel to dry off. There are few people who would need to wash towels weekly (e.g. people with an uncaring/dirty OH/child; sports people who might be drying off from swimming pools or wiping sweat from their bottoms after a gym session) :)

Christy towels are great. Bought ours from an outlet village 8 years ago and they're still as good as new - lovely and fluffy as well!

500gsm isn't bad. Personally, I do want super thick ones, so usually go for 650gsm or higher. John Lewis is pretty good and, unlike many, they always show the weight of their towels.
  • What I have done over the years is buy enough to be able to rotate them so that they dont wear out so quick. I have a plastic container with lid full to the brim of hand towels and they have lasted me for numerous years. And yes I do wash them on a weekly basis.

I found 2 Christy hand towels in a charity shop back in the 90s that had been handed in as they were unwanted gifts due to the colour (lime green and orange) and they are still going strong.

What do you mean worn out? Do they have holes in them or have they just faded?

I've washed my husbands bath towel from M&S at least once a week for the last 10 years on an easy care wash at 60 degrees and there is nothing wrong with it.

Edit: he has 2 identical towels, so each has been washed every 2 weeks for 10 years.

Eww. I want towels washing at least every week. The general 'expert' opinion is to wash bath towels every 3 uses due to the dampness, millions of skin cells, bacteria, mould, mildew, etc.

    Eg.

By worn out - I mean faded.

House of fraser have zero twist towels in Luxury Hotel Collection on sale at the moment. Anyone here used these?

  • We've just bought John lewis Egyptian jewel £24 for a bath towel so not cheap but they dry well wash well no complaints expect them to last. I love a thick towel and they certain fit the bill washed weekly we have 2 sets so they rotate to ensure fully aired

My towels last a lot longer that just 2-3 years. The thing that annoys me is trying to find bath towels which are a decent size, it shouldn't be hard to find but what is often described as a bath towel is nowhere near big enough.
