Should I pay for a shoddy haircut?

You did the right thing. A haircut can be expensive and if not done well it can also affect your confidence. The worst thing is when they cut too much off, or cut unevenly, it can take months to regrow. I'm a gardener, and if I wrecked someone's garden I wouldn't expect the client to accept it! Let it go, and choose another hairdresser by recommendation, good luck!0

Indeed you should not! I would also have complained to management, especially as she realised it wasn't right and attempted to improve it. She ought not to be employed there0

I was astonished 30 years ago to discover this attitude was common among women, when I expressed surprise at a friend's hair-do. Response: 'I told her what I wanted but they think they're the experts, or why else would you come to them?, so it's a little snip there, tidy it up here and it's too late.'
A barber, as we used to call them, wouldn't have tried that ('You look better with a crew cut than a DA.' Wham!) and wouldn't have got paid if he'd chopped your quiff of to start giving you a Beatles cut. Why would a woman tolerate it, especially if she follows a moneysworth website like this?0 -

I wonder whether there is any woman who has never had a hair cut or re-style they didn't like? Not many I would guess! Are you saying she deliberately ruined your hair? Even a trainee would not do this, and it is more likely she thought the style suited you. There are a lot of hairdressers about and you can usually tell the good ones by avoiding those which offer "no appointment necessary". Reputation is everything in this business.
I wonder whether this hairdresser was recommended to you or what enquiries you made before booking an appointment? Personally I wouldn't let anyone loose on my hair without doing a lot of research, and if in doubt it is a good idea to go for just a wash and blow-dry which will at least give you the chance to talk to the stylist, and to see the way the other hairdressers work. By doing this you will at least come out with the same amount of hair you went in with! My advice would be if you find a hairdresser whom you can trust stay with them. I have been going to the same one for over 30 years0 -

Do not pay for bad service. Four of us walked out of a restaurant last week. We had started eating when my son said this leg of lamb is all bone. He'd already eaten some of the meat. Then he realised the bone ws actually solid ice. The waiter said sorry and whisked it away, son followed him to say he didn't want anything now. We three stopped eating, waited a few minutes, no-one came so I left a tenner for the drinks and went to walk out. Someone ran after us shouting. The place was fairly full so I said loud enough for all to hear that the lamb wasn't cooked, there was solid ice in it and we left.0

No you shouldn't pay for it - especially if you are so unhappy that you will have to go and get it done again somewhere else and pay.
It is up to you whether you go back there and give them a second chance or go somewhere else recommended by a good friend!
I have been going to a training salon for 2 years now and the first time the trainee mucked up my highlights so they did them again FOC the next day, and offered that I could go to the next level up of trainee from now on so I go to a trainee who is almost fully qualified. I have been delighted since - tbh they usually don't take enough off and I end up getting them to take a bit more off when it is dry! Which I justify by telling myself it is all extra training for them!!!!
I have been thinking about trying a local salon whose prices are very keen but this has put me off changing!!!0 -
If you gave your hairdresser instructions about how you want your hair to be cut, and she/he did not follow those instructions then walking out without paying is right!
You now have to live with the mess that the hairdresser caused until it grows again.
If however you did not let the person know how you wanted your hair cut to look, then that is your fault and you have to live with the consequences until it regrows.
You should in that case pay for the work done!0
