Quite a lot of the suggestions sound great for a slightly older child. At 5 my DD couldn't really make it through a cinema movie without climbing in to my lap at some point because it was sad/scary/too loud. The dinosaurs at the natural history museum scared the living daylights out of her when she was older than 5. Knitting I would save till later - my DD had reasonable dexterity for her age but still managed to let go of the needles at some point on every other stitch meaning I was constantly rescuing it. Very large point tapestry worked better. If the weather is nice get a roll of lining paper and cut off a long strip then put paint in trays for putting hands and feet in and make a big painting. My DD would also happily 'paint' with brushes and water on the patio - she never seemed to mind that it dried and disappeared.
Take a carrier bag on a walk and collect 'things' such as leaves, twigs, nut shells then bring them back and make a collage

How about the Legoland Discovery place at The Trafford Centre? But be warned there's a HUGEEEE Lego shop at the end :rotfl: dangerous.

A bubble machine might be a good buy. My 5 year old loves bubbles but I get dizzy blowing them for half an hour so a £5 bubble machine from Tesco is a great thing to have!

My daughters love having a 'grown up lady day' - we go to somewhere like Next and look at the clothes, maybe try a few things on, then go for a coffee and a cake. If she's not used to travelling on public transport, going to/from on the bus or train is fun too.

Have you looked at the natural trust 50 things to do before your 11 and 3/4. Ive added the link there are lots of ideas and fun things to do on there. You could try and tick some of the activities off. I do that with my son who is 5, he loves all the outdoors things.https://www.50things.org.uk/activity-list.aspx
    Love a charity shop bargain

Life is like a bath, the longer you are in it the more wrinkly you become.

pizza making - kids knead well as they tend to be heavy handed, use a mix or make from scratch or if time/skills are short you can use rolls, french stick, pitta bread etc and top with tomato puree, cheese and fave toppings - bonus is you have lunch.
grow quick plants such as cress or mung beans, you can photo the progress or a bean seed in a jam jar with a sheet of kitchen roll so it grows up the side - takes longer as a bigger plant - but progress can still be recorded daily.
look on line for craft ideas - loads of templates you can print off, cut , colour and assemble.
if the weather is poor have an indoor camping trip with sheets and furniture - and a picnic in the front room - if good weather a picnic in the local park.
if you have any big old boxes you dont need - what can you make out of them?
if the weather is windy make kites and fly them in the garden or park, some simple ideas on line.
look up how to make a 'lava lamp' with alca seltza and oil, water and food coluring in a vase or pop botltle.
look up what is going on in the local area - may be a cheap/free event that a younge child would enjoy.
if you havent got time to bake cakes to decorate - you can buy cheap ready mad plain cupcakes or even decorate digestive biscuits.
Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"
