    The canary Islands although under the control of Spain for Tobacco and spirits they have their own taxing so a classed as non EU

    Thanks. Interesting that I've never seen this indicated at other airports and have always happily passed through the blue channel, as I would guess have others.

    Yes I know, we holiday in the Canaries a number of times each year and for those that listen it is explained that for Cigs and spirits the Canary Islands are not classed as EU but may do not listen/do not believe it or choose to ignore it and then wonder why they are pulled at the UK airports for bringing over the amount back.

    The recommended limit is 800, but as long as you can convince Customs they're for personal use (2000 is about 10 weeks for me, and I'm next leaving the UK in 9 weeks time) then you should be fine.
