not yet pregnant but offer of lovely baby things

Options
Hi we're not yet pregnant (trying to save a small pot of money) but my sister in law has just offered our nephew's old cot etc which is really good quality and lovely. They have no room for storage but we have a big attic it could go away to- is it crazy/unlucky to accept it? ?

I think it's an old wive's tale that it's 'bad luck' to get baby stuff before baby is born. Start stocking up now, (and accept the cot!) and all the best.

Hope you hear the patter of tiny feet soon. :j

id be inclined to take it! (we have just started trying) but i know a lot of folk dont like to jinx things? i have a friend whos 25 weeks and only now starting buying bits

to me i think if it didnt happen/something awful happened it would be devasting i dont think the getting rid of items could make it worse....but maybe it would ??

Even if you don't accept it you will find all sorts of people will offer you baby items when you do get pregnant, so you are unlikely to miss out.
We are nearly 24 weeks now and started accepting things off people at 11 weeks which some people said was too early.
If you have the storage space then just do what you feel comfortable with.
If the worst does happen you can always re-donate them to someone else who would appreciate them when you feel it is right
  • Thanks all! I will, it's just had mentioned it to people at work and got shrieks of horror! X

I'd take it, if anyone says anything negative and u dont feel like making it into a confrontation situation, u could always say your storing it, as they dont have any room xx

you are storing it for them.. once you mention that you are pregnant they may decide that actually as a thanks for storing it you can use it after.

never know they may want it back after youve used it.. me & SiL did this with most of ouur stuff as I had my daughter, she then had her daughter then I had another girl so everything I had for my first went to SiL then back to me.
your only storing it remember :D

Don't let other people bother you with their superstitions. If you look up the latest researc on causes of infertility I'm pretty sure hoarding baby stuff is not on the list....

I'm 15 weeks pregnant and no one has offered me any baby stuff so I'd take it without a moment's hesitation and ignore the old wive's tales! One friend is lending me her baby swing but she wants it back for when she has a 2nd.
  • TAKE IT! I never got offered anything while pregnant. ENjoy x
