Missing Stopcock

This is slowly getting worse!
So have isolated the water in the house with the internal stop !!!! and after 60 seconds or so the tap stops completely.
Went to check the meter and the dials are still moving slowly. Am I right in thinking that indicates a leak on the supply line that runs down the drive and under my house?
EDIT:
Forgot to add that AG came out and sorted the external stopcock, I can now turn that on and off with no problems. When the meter is turned off, there is no flow of water at all and no dials move.0 -
Assuming that your internal stopcock shuts off everything in the house (including outside taps etc) and the meter still rotates then yes, you've got a leak between the meter and the internal stopcock.
Did the AW guy check for leaks or just sort out the stopcock?
Some water companies will find & sort out a leak but we didn't get that from AW when we had one a couple of years ago - we just got a letter threatening me to get it sorted out in accordance with the Water Industry Act 1991 otherwise they would take action. https://www.ofwat.gov.uk/consumerissues/rightsresponsibilities/supplypipes/
As far as I remember I had 30 days to get it sorted out http://www.anglianwater.co.uk/household/water-supply/leakage/fixing-leaks.aspx
My house insurance got it sorted (I had to pay the excess) and AW credited me with the lost waterNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Thanks for replying.
The AW guy came when no one was in and used the external tap on the side of the house to confirm the stopcock worked etc. He left a note saying he had done it all and if there was a leak to check the toilets which I have done already (and internal stopcock tests confirm leak is not inside property).
I have a Homeserve policy which covers the water flow pipe with £50 excess which is a lot lower than my house insurance, plus it means no claim to declare to them so waiting for an engineer to schedule an appointment now!0 -
This is becoming a nightmare now!
Homeserve came and said that although I now have access to the internal stopcock, that is not the location of the main inlet pip into the kitchen. The stopcock was obviously moved when the extension and new kitchen were put it. So now Homeserve are telling me I need to remove my kitchen units so that they can get access to where the inlet pipe comes into the kitchen, which is to the side of another cupboard. I simply cannot remove the units, they are all fastened in from the top with a granite work surface on top, it would mean destroying half my kitchen to do what they are asking.
So now I'm stuck between a rock and hard place! Any one had experience of something like this?0 -
My units can be removed independent of the work surface - removing the bottom plinth gives access to the feet and the height adjustment. You should be able to lower the units.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

why do they need access to the original stop tap ?
if its an external leak they need to try and find where that is, if it was leaking inside im sure you would notice it, unless its just a drip, is the meter constantly moving or stop start ?0 -
Robin9, my units cannot be removed.
Deanos, I have no idea, this is what Homeserve are telling me, they cannot continue with any repair work until they can get access to the inflow pipe that comes into the kitchen from the supply line. Leak is definiately between meter and stop !!!! as with internal stop !!!! off, the meter still rotates slowly.0 -
