Admiral. And now having searched around it appears that they are not very well liked for all sort of reasons....uh-oh.
Can't disagree more.
I had a car stolen when insured with Admiral.
It was a rare car in the spec I bought it, Subaru Legacy saloon with an Autobox. Mile were under 40k after 4 yrs.
They could only find one slightly.newer on Autotrader, a 54plate instead on an 04 but it had slightly higher miles.
End result they paid out £8k within a week or so and my premium hardly changed.
As far as the OP goes it is possible that the other party in the incident is insured by the same Insurer.
My cousin had a similiar issue. The mechanic took his car for a drive without permission when he left it at the garage for some bodywork.
He had an accident and turned out to not be covered by the garage insurance. 3rd party insured by same company.
My cousin lost 2.yrs NCD.
Not a good situation in his case or the OPs case.0 -
pretty stupid legislation in this. I guess it helps authorities and the courts quickly assign responsibility for the costs - they don't care whose pocket it comes out of.
reminder to everyone really, cancel your insurance and also make sure that anyone you have to hand your keys to, you trust wholeheartedly!0 -

why on earth would the insurers pay out of your policy. Surely a bodywork garage of all places would have insurance cover for all customers cars and all staff? Since their job involves driving customers cars.
Oh I know, scumbag garage probably claimed they don't know who was driving the car at the time.0 -

The legislation is designed to ensure that a pedestrian or indeed any injured party is hit by a vehicle that in virtually all circumstances there is an Insurer or failing that the MIB to pay out compensation to the innocent party.
It's also there to stop Insurers who have issued a Certificate of Insurance (Which is a legal document agreeing to pay valid claims) trying to use loopholes to avoid paying claims to third parties
Like any piece of legislation there can be parts that are unfair and the legislation has been continually altered in the very long time that the Road Traffic Act has existed in relation to third party liability.0 -
Also helps in the situation that someone has an accident and alleges they sold the car prior to the accident.0

rs65 it sounds as though you are accusing me of lying about selling? I have proof I sold the car, I took a copy of the signed V5 slip for I sent it recorded delivery to the DVLA who then sent me a letter back to say it was now in the name of the new owner.
Martheshark - compassion isn't the same as sympathy. It's understanding the issue from the questioner's point of view. Compassion does help some people, it makes them feel less scared about the possibility that they will lose everything they've worked hard to attain. There are nice ways to answer genuine questions from people who don't fully understand the situation that they are in. Answering in a way that makes them feel insignificant and stupid does not help the situation at all. It's just plain mean.0
