Sorry if I have offended you, I am merely pointing out facts

PPI premiums were in the region of 70p for every £100 of balance held on the card - to pay over £5100 of premiums you must have had tens of thousands of pounds on the card over the life of the card and regularly held large balances that were not cleared in full every month, that is a material fact, not an insult.

PPI normally did cover the self-employed, it is a claims company myth that self-employed people can just whack that on the form and get an instant win and propagating that myth does not help other complaints.

As stated to the OP, Santander did not sell you anything, therefore they were not guilty of miss-sale, that they are accepting complaints from people who had a product with a firm that was nothing to do with them is a bonus and any return of premiums would be a bonus for the customers.

Frankly I don't care about kitchens, your PPI refund was simply a return of your own money that you paid out already. The interest element is certainly a bonus but having never had an unpaid debt, never spent what I couldn't afford, never agreed to finance stuff without reading the Ts & Cs, always paid off credit card in full every month and never having a negative mark on my financial history, it doesn't concern me, I am not due a refund of anything as I was never miss-sold anything, I live with my means and don't sign up for things like that as I don't want them, if I was told "you must have this to get that" I would ask for that in writing or walk away.
Well , aren't you amazing with your finances ?
Unfortunately , many of us have made stupid and ill- judged mistakes and decisions , this Forum is full of people like that and that allows you the pleasure to be somewhat patronising and , yes , offend people.
Thank goodness not everyone is like that .

PPI was also charged on some credit cards even if you paid the balance in full every month. I had a Barclaycard taken out in 2001 where the ppi was added to the balance before it was paid. It appeared on the very 1st statement, and I was charged it every month even though I paid the balance In full every month.

Don't assume that everyone who had PPi on a credit or store card kept a balance running on the card, that's a myth. My partner also had a credit card where he was charged ppi each and every month, where the balance was paid off each month.

I have since complained and had my ppi and associated interest refunded with additional simple interest.

I had a Dorothy Perkins storecard which was closed in 2010 ( same provider ) - I submitted a claim for mis sold PPI which , after lots of requests for further information - which I provided - was rejected . I made the original claim to GE Money . About 5 weeks ago I received a letter from Santander stating they were reviewing my claim . Luckily I had all the original documentation so I'm waiting to hear the outcome .
I'm not holding my breath but I had a M&S PPI claim rejected at the same time then last year , out of the blue , I received a cheque for 17k
    So - you never know
I have just had a phone call from Santander saying the claim they were reviewing has been upheld ( it was 8 weeks next week sine I submitted the questionnaire ) . They cant tell me the figure but I will be informed ASAP.
Thankyou to the people on this forum who have been helpful.

The number of people that receive PPI refunds and go on to spend that money on non essentials is very concerning. People don't seem to learn from their mistakes :(

I totally agree . If I'd had any debts mine would have gone to those . Having just reached retirement and received a very substantial pension , it was wonderful to spend my refund on updating my home

Yes , it was a Chargecard . Opened in store in 1985 - we were told the insurance was compulsory , we were self employed so it wasn't really appropriate .
You seem to have been lucky. In 1985 there would have been no ombudsman scheme relating to such cards. Had Santander been on the ball, they could have simply argued that FOS had no jurisdiction.

Still, you got it - spend it wisely.

    Where is this evidenced?
  • I have also received a letter this morning from Santander stating that they were not considering my case because of blaahdy blah, ...loads of written 'eye wash' etc. I am waiting to see if Gladstone Brookes, whom I enlisted as my representatives, manage to squeeze them on my behalf! It seems they are hard to crack but I will not let this end here!

In the documentation for the PPI?

Shame you had to use a claims firm, they'll take a huge chunk of any refund for simply putting a stamp on a couple of envelopes

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Rather than denigrating what their response, why not focus on the rejection reasons and consider whether they are fair rejections and what evidence you have to counter them?

Which they cant do as the CMC has no impact on the decision making by the bank.
