Debenhams Store Card PPI

I am trying to find out if I can claim PPI mis-selling on a Debenhams store card and if anyone has had any success with this?

I have had the card quite a long time now and it was originally provided for Debenhams by GE Finance. When I applied, I was never asked about PPI but it was added automatically.
More recently (circa 5 years or so) the card provider has switched to Santander I believe and it still has the PPI on it.

Does anyone have a view if I can claim for this, how far it can go back and what evidence I will need?

Thanks.

You can raise a complaint (though don't use the line "added automatically" - this is a claims company myth, it was either on the documentation you signed and you have simply forgotten or it was added by phone later - it would be wholesale fraud for someone to tick the box after you left - plus it would have been on all your statements so you would have presumably noticed this charge you didn't agree to and complained at the time?)

You would need to complain to Debenhams (though if it was taken out before 2005 the sale would not have been regulated so they can reject your complaint as pre-regulation).

Your evidence would be in the form of statements showing you paid it (though if still active they should have copies) and whatever you have to back up your complaint that it was miss-sold.

Complain to Debenhams, then probably to GE Capital [Santander won't entertain a complaint since it wasn't sold by them]
If you are successful with GE, then complin to Sanatnader for the return of rpemiums since they took over but don't hold your breath because GE weren't regulated then either.

I had a Dorothy Perkins storecard which was closed in 2010 ( same provider ) - I submitted a claim for mis sold PPI which , after lots of requests for further information - which I provided - was rejected . I made the original claim to GE Money . About 5 weeks ago I received a letter from Santander stating they were reviewing my claim . Luckily I had all the original documentation so I'm waiting to hear the outcome .
I'm not holding my breath but I had a M&S PPI claim rejected at the same time then last year , out of the blue , I received a cheque for 17k
    So - you never know

A 17k refund of PPI must be a loan, you would never manage to rack up £17k of refunds from a credit card - PPI was charged at around 70p/£100 of balance left on the card.

Santander did not sell you anything so have no liability for a Dorothy Perkins card sale, that they are reviewing it is a bonus

The M& S PPI refund WAS for a storecard . Not that I have to prove it - but here is the breakdown :-
PPI payments from May 2000 to March 2008
£5,102.15 - Refund of insurance premiums between those dates
£3057.55 - Refund of interest in respect of payments
    £11,328.96 Compensation interest
    - £ 2265.79 - tax deducted
Total amount paid in April 2014 £ 17,222.87
Card was opened in 1985 and closed in 2008

    Thankyou

Fair enough, my mistake, you must have racked up some massive spending on a store card that went unpaid for a long time with a huge credit limit to have paid that much PPI and that amount of interest even at 8% simple is remarkable

I feel as though I'm having to explain myself I did not 'Rack up ' massive spending - as you can see I had the card for a number of years - it was paid off on numerous occasions with the highest credit limit being 5k which is not a huge credit limit . It also never went unpaid for a long time . You make an awful lot of unfair , and quite honestly, rude assumptions .
I do not post on this board often and I am very offended , I came on to see if any others had heard from Santander. But as I am now completely debt and mortgage free , it served its purpose .
    And I have a new 17k kitchen
  • Hi, was the ppi redress for a m&s charge card or credit card? I got a ppi reimbursement from smile bank credit card for £9,775. But also had a m and s store charge card from about 1992 - 2008. Just wondering, well done by the way!

Yes , it was a Chargecard . Opened in store in 1985 - we were told the insurance was compulsory , we were self employed so it wasn't really appropriate .
Original claim was made in 2010 and rejected , the last year they reviewed it
    Good Luck

Sorry if I have offended you, I am merely pointing out facts

PPI premiums were in the region of 70p for every £100 of balance held on the card - to pay over £5100 of premiums you must have had tens of thousands of pounds on the card over the life of the card and regularly held large balances that were not cleared in full every month, that is a material fact, not an insult.

PPI normally did cover the self-employed, it is a claims company myth that self-employed people can just whack that on the form and get an instant win and propagating that myth does not help other complaints.

As stated to the OP, Santander did not sell you anything, therefore they were not guilty of miss-sale, that they are accepting complaints from people who had a product with a firm that was nothing to do with them is a bonus and any return of premiums would be a bonus for the customers.

Frankly I don't care about kitchens, your PPI refund was simply a return of your own money that you paid out already. The interest element is certainly a bonus but having never had an unpaid debt, never spent what I couldn't afford, never agreed to finance stuff without reading the Ts & Cs, always paid off credit card in full every month and never having a negative mark on my financial history, it doesn't concern me, I am not due a refund of anything as I was never miss-sold anything, I live with my means and don't sign up for things like that as I don't want them, if I was told "you must have this to get that" I would ask for that in writing or walk away.
