Microsoft Essentials :rotfl::rotfl: Not fit for purpose
You say that from what experience ?
Because it sits there silently and doesn't bother you every 30 seconds showing off that it has blocked another intrusion ?
Because it doesn't spam you constantly asking if you want to upgrade to the "premium" version ?
I have been an IT consultant for 25 years.Since it has been available, I have been using Microsoft security essentials, teamed up with malwarebytes and adw cleaner.
I have never, ever, not one time had a virus on my machine. And it runs as quickly as the day it was purchased.
Silly boy0 -

See for yourself here .. I had to throw some spaces in as I cant post links0 -
strict software vetting and no casual installing of any software, script blocking, avoiding the kind of website that would host malware, a good firewall and I don't need much in the AV department. For my needs, MS security essentials is more than adequate.
Baseline is fine and preferable to bloat.0 -
Six year old pdf , and you call me a silly boy
6 year old PDF yes ..
6 year old software
6 year old operating system (if your using win7)
These things do get updated you know.. And if anything, Avast and the like are even worse than they were back then.
Back in the day, AVG used to be quite good .. These days its that bloated it regularly takes %50 of your CPU0 -

You must be nearly as old as me , I suppose you will tell me next that Norton is a resource Hog (well it was back then). Why do people quote their experience to prove their point?
As you state "These things do get updated you know" , oh I know and I do try to keep up to date. Do you keep up to date with your qualifications, I don't I stopped when my health when down hill but each to his own.
Have you found a useful AV product for Windows 10 yet , how good are the latest AVs on Windows 8.1? Do you know a recent pdf that compares them against that.
I use linux mainly (Fedora, without AV) but I use noscript on Firefox and also Ghostery and use a restricted Hosts file, and when the household use Windows the same applies but we use NIS too.:eek:0
