Can '3' contract sim cards work in any unlocked handset

Hi ,
I have recently changed over to the '3' network from orange i did receive a new phone from '3' a nokia n73 it's a nice phone but find my old orange phone (unlocked ) a nokia 6230i much easier to use . I have already checked to see if the '3' sim works in my old phone and it does but in the pass i know that after a while '3' would block their sims from working in any none '3' handsets . I only ask now as my mate is on '3' payg & has been using a none '3' handset from the last 6 month with out any problems . All advice welcome .
regards

a 3 simcard will work in ALL 3G phones (IF UNLOCKED OR ON 3 TO BEGIN WITH).

They *may* work in other none 3g phones (I know from experience they work in Nokia 8800, 6230i and 6111)

BUT THEY WILL REALISE THAT YOU ARE NOT USING A 3G CONNECTION and they will give you a warning and if you continue to use it block you.

So my advice is don't use it with your 6230i.
