How Easy to Get Out of a Sky Broadband Contract

Hi all, forum newbie here. Go easy on me:cool:
I took out a Sky Broadband contract about 4 or 5 months ago as it saved me about £15 a month over my pre-existing Pipex deal.
I knew at the time it was a risk as to be fair, Pipex were ultra-reliable; I never had a single problem since setting up with them about 3 or 4 years previously. Their technical support line was charged at local rate, not that I ever had to ring it anyway.
Since going over to Sky, I've not been too happy. Yes, I pay less for a "supposedly" faster service (not that I ever see the maximum download speed anyway), but I get numerous drop-offs and have often had to reset my router and/or restart my computer to get the service up and running. I also use an XBox 360 to play games online and this often disconnects if the connection is unstable. My wife works from home as a designer some days and has to be able to e-mail large files; obviously, this becomes very difficult if the connection is unstable.
All in all, I'd like to get rid of Sky out of my house altogether, and go to cable for TV, Phone and Broadband as this would save me a huge amount every month (currently on Sky for digital TV, TalkTalk for calls, BT for line rental and Sky for broadband).
So, how do I get out of the broadband contract I have with Sky? Can I use the fact that their service has been bad to get out of the contract or al I tied in until a twelve month period has passed? Has anyone else got out of their contract?

Hi DeadlyDarcy, welcome to the MSE forum.
IMHO you dont have grounds for ending the agreement just yet as you have to give them chance to correct the problem but I would start the ball rolling with them by contacting their THD.
My next advice is to document every contact you make with them including the name of the person you contacted, the date, time & duration of the call plus roughly what was said on the call. The reason for this is if it does get to the point where they have not resolved the issue within a reasonable timescale then you can complain to them about the poor service, request that the agreement be terminated without charge you have evidence to back this up.
If you require any further advice then please pm me anytime.0 -
The problems you are having with Sky may be due to the way you have connected your router, as previously stated you need to give Sky the opportunity to fix your problems.
May I suggest that you have a look at https://www.skyuser.co.uk where you will find a lot of user experience and advise, Sky also unofficially post there. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
