Tuesday 19th May - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :money:

Morning all & thanks for the start Ziggy.
I'm not putting up a list today as DH has a hospital appointment this morning so I have no idea what I will/won't get done today.
I've checked banking/updated spreadsheet
Put dishwasher on eco wash
switched phone off over night
ys crumpets from breakfast.
I will take a bottle of water & some snacks up to the hospital with us to save pennies there.
Have a good day allFollowing :money: to keep us debt free :j0 -
Morning everyone :wave: thanks for starting us off ziggy
Aw beautiful day here in Kent and I have the day off :j after yesterday's konmondo & flaylady day my house is beautifully clean and in order so much more of a relaxed day for me :T
Things to do today:
* submit mater readings
* check banking and shift some funds out of the emergency fund into my bank account
* walk to the farm shop and buy a couple of onions and nothing else
* gather all papers & clothes from the loft to konmondo later on
* go in the garden and do some weeding the path
* clean marks off of front door (outside)
* [STRIKE]packed lunch for dgd[/STRIKE]
* dgd continues to potty train. Lots of accidents (so more washing!) but we are still on the box of nappies I bought 3 weeks ago and have only used about 1/3 :T
* [STRIKE]email gardener & tree surgeon[/STRIKE]
* finish book
* Do some sewing
* getting my hair cut tonight :j Having it all chopped off!
* [STRIKE]sent oh off with remortgage paperwork to get his boss to witness[/STRIKE]
* repot tomoato plants
* plant some basil & beetroot
we are in the process of remortgaging and a surveyor will come round very soon so trying to get it all in order! A house up our road sold for £193K I have said ours is worth £190 so really hoping they agree! The other house is the same size, decorated throughout with a nice gardern. BUT the other house was dated in decor. Ours in comparison is very modern/minimalist but the master bedroom hasn't been decorated and needs plastering and our garden is in the process of being done. Won't be finished until mid June. Just pray they still say that's what it's worth!
Have a lovely day everyone xDF as at 30/12/16

Morning all,
What a weird day, weather-wise. Had planned a garden day but had to keep running inside & doing something else during the showers. Have given up now. At least I managed some of my outdoor jobs. Today's money saving efforts:
*NSD. I don't have the car, I don't fancy the bus, there's only 2 shops in our village....I'm staying home!
*All laundry dried on airer without me having to switch it on.
*Strained the fresh chicken stock made overnight in the slow cooker.
*Prepped veggies for tonight's fajhitas (rubber chicken meal 3)
*Planted up 3 big tubs with over-wintered pelargoniums & a selection of osteospermum, violas & swan river daisies......all grown from free seeds.
*Some of the primulas I took out from spring planting were in good condition, so replanted in borders for a splash of free spring colour (purple) next year.
*Checked on lettuces & baby runner bean plants. Both OK. We get a lot of wood pigeons in our garden, but one in particular is enormous & his appetite is voracious. He can clear a bird table in minutes, then when you think there wouldn't be a scrap more space in his colossal gut, he strolls down to the veggie garden to see what he can rob for dessert. Frankly, I'm surprised the b*gger can still fly!
*Surveys - am slacking on these lately - will do some if I am in the mood.
*Continue family history project while I have a free membership of one of the online sites.....& to make best use of the one I'm currently paying for, as I don't intend it to be a long term subscription.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks. Think I'll get a soup out of the freezer for that.
*Use it up - Coriander plant on kitchen windowsill is bolting, so will use the last of it to make a salsa to go with tonight's fajhitas.
Think that's my lot. Have a good day, all.

Hi All
Hannah - hope your OH is ok.
Determined - good luck getting the valuation you need. Fingers crossed!
BB - hot water is such a must isn't it. When our boiler went off last week it was a real harsh reality call just how much you rely on a hot bath, doing the dishes etc. I suppose all I can say is glad for you it wasn't in the depths of winter. But the weather this week you wouldn't think it wasn't.
Princess -spag bol sounds good. We had that on Sunday to use up the last of the frozen mince bag. I wouldn't buy it like that again I have to say. It was fatty and not very tasty compared to fresh mince.
Well today.
Found 1p roadkill first thing.
Went to Mr T to buy steak with my £4 off voucher but they didn't have any. Boo.
Let the builder in at our flat, we have to have the ceiling re plastered. It's a huge unplanned expense of £1400. But the damage was deceptive. There was some water damage done while our previous neighbours were still in residence. Then after they'd gone we had water get in via the bay. Anyway just looked like a tiny hole that needed to be done but when we got the plasterer around he said it was actually dangerous as none of the plaster was attached very securely! If we'd known we'd have done a home insurance claim but now as the actual damage goes back over a year it's just a suck it up situation.
Fortunately we have the cash due to the insurance rebate. But it sickens me to spend it on such a dull job. If doesn't even include painting it afterwards! But the thought of our tenant or her family having plaster land on them is a horrible thought. Amazing how you can have a dangerous situation arise without knowing.
Sorry waffling now. The brakes are seriously on for any unnecessary spending in our house from Now until the end of the month. Which helps trying to hit the NSD total as well.
Bye for now.

Good morning all
Thanks for starting us off Ziggy.
Foxgloves, hope the weather improves for you.
ESBM hope you feel better soon.
Hannah hope hospital goes ok.
DNMS good luck with the surveyor.
This morning I have sold a book on Ebay for the grand price of £4.49 including postage which really surprised me but I'm happy! It was just a used paperback that you could get brand new for not much more on Amazon, but I guess on there they have the free delivery minimum spend. So that's a little bit more paid off the credit card, only £3.69 after fees though grr!
Also rang Capital One as I had a card with them a year or so ago that a company has processed a refund onto - they are sending me a cheque so that's another £8-ish.
Withdrew 68p from TopCashBack and got an extra 5% by withdrawing to Amazon - so that's 71p added to my Amazon Xmas Savings, plus another £10 from Shop and Scan. Up to just over £100 now.
I have also booked in a mystery dine for bank holiday Monday which I will combine with a cinema trip (paid for using my Vodafone Freebeez rewards) and a bowling trip in the afternoon (I have some free vouchers to use following a complaint). So that's a nice free day out planned.
I've also got myself tickets for the launch of a new Arts Centre on Thursday evening which will be a nice free after work activity, and some free tickets to see Mr Holmes next Tuesday.
The month is filling up fast with free fun!
Nothing planned for today apart from work and taking my library books back. It's raining something awful so I don't mind. Back on the Slimming World bandwagon after my holiday so meals planned for today based around their rules. Made overnight oats last night for breakfast which made my porridge more palatable! Planning to make again today but at work, leaving in the work fridge for tomorrow, which will save me carrying it in on the train.
Have lovely DFW days all!My debt free diary | Post Office loan: £2131 1429.38 | Barclaycard: £4429 1988.12 | Paypal Credit £322.71 574.91 | Monzo Flex £169.03 |
Total £4151.44 | £2900.30 of £7051.74 paid off since diary started October 2024.0
