What's my address?

I'm in the middle of buying a flat and I'm a bit confused about the address.

There are 3 flats in the block, ground floor, first floor and attic floor. There is a shared front door to the close and then each flat has its own front door. Royal Mail only deliver post through the shared front door.

Let's say that address for this property is 3 Pigeon Street, Aberdeen, AB1 2PG.

For the flat I am buying Royal Mail list the following addresses:

3 Pigeon Street, Aberdeen, AB1 2PG.
Attic Floor Flat, 3 Pigeon Street, Aberdeen, AB1 2PG.
3C Pigeon Street, Aberdeen, AB21 2PG.

So I checked the Scottish Assessors Association where the following addresses are listed for the property:

Attic Floor Flat, 3 Pigeon Street, Aberdeen, AB1 2PG.
3C Pigeon Street, Aberdeen, AB21 2PG.

Interestingly SAA list one of the addresses as a council tax band D and the other as council tax band E even though it's exactly the same property. Weird eh?

Has anyone else been in a similar position with multiple addresses for the same property? If so, which one did you pick?

I'd ask the estate agents in the first instance.

Thanks, my current landlord served me notice to quit so I decided to bite the bullet and just buy somewhere as 5 moves in 3.5 years is quite enough for this Pixie.

No, the two SAA addresses I listed are for my (soon to be anyway) flat only. The other two flats also have two addresses listed for each of them on SAA.

    There's:

Ground Floor Whole, 3 Pigeon Street as well as 3A Pigeon Street

    and the other flat has

First Floor Whole, 3 Pigeon Street and 3B Pigeon Street.

I've emailed my solicitor for clarification but I was wondering if anyone else had come across this before.

I used to live in Aberdeen and lived in a flat which was called

Top Floor Left, the street, and
    Flat 6, the street.

Never did get it sorted, and I went with the one listed on the council tax bill, TFL.

Very bizarre, but never did stop me getting credit or bills or anything.

The challenges will be when call centre agents are trying to find your address in their address file; and when you apply for credit, the lender will be trying to cross reference your postal address with your electoral roll address etc.

So perhaps the most important thing is to pick one address and stick with it.

I'd probably stick with whatever address the previous occupier used - it will make the taking over of utilities, council tax etc far simpler.

I bought a flat in a block on a street corner. The lease gave its address as being on one street, but council tax, utilities, the post office all said it was in another street.

I made my solicitor aware of both addresses, in case it caused problems with searches etc. But it has never caused any other problems.

    Thanks Paully.

I did rent a ground floor flat in Aberdeen the other year, let's call it 6 Spooner Street. Post sent to me at Ground Floor Whole, 6 Spooner Street and just 6 Spooner Street reached me ok.

There was a 6A Spooner Street but that was for another building that had been tacked on to the side of 6 Spooner Street at some point. 6A's post kept coming through my letter box even though 6A had its very own letter box completely separate from the three flats at number 6.

When I lived in an Aberdeen tenement it was ground floor,21, Smith Street. Made up address obviously! That was the address used by Council Tax,etc.

My solicitor has just come back to me saying that the correct address is:

    Flat C
    3 Pigeon Street

    The plot thickens!

Could you just combine them both e.g. 3C Pigeon Street (Attic Floor Flat), Aberdeen? That way, whichever is shown on existing records for things like utilities will still be part of the address so it shouldn't confuse companies too much.

ETA: Just saw your update. I would go with Flat C (Attic), 3 Pigeon Street then.
