Has anyone attended a Film Premiere in Leicester Square?

What's it like?

I've been entering a few of these comps as it sounds quite fun, but what is it like to go?

Do you just go in with other competition winners and sit near the back (or even in a different screen/room?)? Do you meet/see the actors in the film and go in the front entrance? Do you get photographed? Do you have to dress up? Is it a bit overwhelming or just fun? I'm a bit shy! :D

I just happened to walk through Leicester Square (or tried to, it was packed so we had to go around instead) on the night of one of the Twilight films and it looked crazy, but I guess it would be less so for some films, just depends on the film/actors popularity?

Sorry if my questions are silly :)
Can anyone explain their own experience? I hope you had a great time! :D

Personally, unless it includes a hotel/travel etc, I wouldn't bother. I found it a waste of time, waiting for stars etc. Maybe you might get a bottle of water and a packet of popcorn on your chair.

  • We went to the Expendables 2 premiere a couple of years ago. We dressed up, got to walk the red carpet alongside everyone else, sat near the front of the screening and watched the live feed from the red carpet whilst waiting for everyone to come in. All the main stars came onstage beforehand and gave a brief introduction about the film and said thanks to certain people, then they all walked off stage and shook hands with anyone that asked including us, so got to shake hands and say hi to Sylvester Stallone, Arnie, and Jason Statham. As the olympics had just finished it was full of athletes who had been invited too. We had a great time xx
  • Thanks for the replies :)

Sounds like it's a bit hit'n'miss then and experiences can vary greatly!

I have been a couple of times and think it was a lot of fun. I only have to jump on the Tube to get there but if i had further to travel then i probably wouldnt bother.

I wen to tthe hobbit one, I won tickets and me and my sister went up for the day from Cornwall! 24 hour trip in total, only sleep was on the train. We had a great time, I didnt even thin to dress up so looked so out of place! the stars sat in with us watching the movie. I was on one side of the walk way and Stephen fry was on the other side of the walk way, so essentially I was sat next to Stephen Fry, Orlando Bloom was sat a few rows back and the main lady in it was just across from us. We got to have a right chat with Orlando Blooms mum whilst waiting to go in, It was a very surreal evening. I would go again if it included hotels etc, my prize wasnt meant to include travel but when I said I was in cornwall the company offered to pay for mine and my sisters travel. If I lived closer I would try go to more.

don't enter for film premieres as don't live close so too much of a hassle ...if I lived a tube or bus ride away I would enter for all of them :)

I have been to one or two. I remember The Devil's Double - not a big fuss, no massive red carpet nor black tie, just smart-casual, everyone arrived/entered through the same entrance, there were a few photographers waiting to take pics (not of us lol), we sat fairly near the front, and there were a couple of speeches first (main actor/s and maybe producer/writer or whoever) and we watched the film. Was a nice night. Been to some awards which were all singing & dancing - paps, red carpet, glam dresses, etc.

There was another film premiere but I can't remember what it was - it was def more glam, but still not exactly ballgowns & tiaras!

If not too much hassle to get to (I'm already in London), it's a free film/night out.

Oh, and yes, I think it def depends on how famous the cast are/how major the film is as to how glam it is!

I've been lucky enough to win a couple - usually the seats are pretty good! (Usually a few rows from the front - mostly seated with other winners/PR tickets) The cast usually come to the front of the stage before the film, and you usually get a free bag of popcorn and a drink.

I know for bigger films they sometimes use both Odeon's so you get the one with the cast & celebs and the other with jurnos (both in the Square)...although I've always been lucky and been in the main cinema!

Won tickets and stay in London to see Guardians of the Galaxy, dressed up and we were ushered into the cinema before the stars arrived, when we entered the cinema everyone was being separated up and sent into different screens. We were ushered into a side screen and stared at a blank screen for an hour, then the film started, didn't see any of the action on the red carpet or see any of the stars in the cinema, if it wasn't for the stay in London it would have been a complete disaster. Complained to Disney but never got any response.
