The peak is worth a visit which has already been said.

The whole place looks very beautiful at night with all the lights.

I have been to the Philippines 6 times as my wife is from there so i am sure you will enjoy it especially if you have not been before.:D

All good info, I think I am going to look towards Kowloon for the stay - its literally going to be a few days of running around.

Must admit, don't need to cut costs on the hotels and stuff so not looking for the YMCA's, but thanks for the suggestion all the same.

Trying to sort out the hotels now and will plan out the rest of the trips within - currently the Crowne Plaza in Kowloon East is top of the list.

Thanks for the info so far and for any other suggestions from anyone else.

    .

The YMCA I mentioned is about as luxurious as the Sheraton (Grand Kakatiya) in Hyderabad, used by Bill Clinton for a presidential visit: these are the two most high-end places I have ever stayed at. OK, I had a suite there so maybe it is not a fair comparison... Anyway, check out some reviews.

Other luxurious places with that location would cost serious sums of money.

Like someone else said the Salisbury Road YMCA is not what you expect from a YMCA and is more luxurious than you think. It is comparable to other 4 or even 5 star hotels and have a wonderful harbour view.

The Crowne Plaza in Kowloon East is slightly away from the actual Kowloon hub. It is near a MTR but will add another 15 or so minutes onto your journey to anywhere. Plus it is further away from the airport as it is the other side of Kowloon. If you don't mind that then great.

Try looking at hotels near Tsim Sha Tsui/ East Tsim Sha Tsui, Hung Hom, Jordan, Yau Ma Tei or even Mong Kok/Mong Kok East. At a push Kowloon and Olympic.

We are staying Hotel Madera in November which is next to Jordan and right now they are doing pay 2 nights get the 3rd night free till end of the year.

Another thing is Hong Kong hotel rooms tend to be small but then most resident flats rooms are tiny. But some hotels do have larger rooms depending on where you stay.

Ladies market or Temple market in Kowloon and then there is also Stanley Market on the South side of Hong Kong island.

You might try a night horse race meeting at Haapy Valley.
Even if you aren't interested in horse racing.
Pre purchase a ticket to the Stable Bend Terrace.
Fabulous view, great food and drink and the betting windows are 20 feet away.
    It won't be overcrowded either.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Yes - the smallest hotel room I've had in my life was in Hong Kong and it had no view to speak of either, but it didn't matter: nobody goes to HK to spend time in their room, you'll be out for 18 hours a day so it's just somewhere to sleep and shower.

It truly is no ordinary YMCA-the view from our room.

Wonderful for the evening sound and light show. Comfy beds, swimming pool and gym, gorgeous breakfast, everything close by including the underground and star ferry, £800 for 5 nights was a real mid range bargain in HK for the 4 of us.

    ‎Ngong Ping 360 (Cable car)/ Big Buddha/ Tai O

When we went to HK we wanted to go up the cable car to the Big Buddha, but it was not working - I get the impression that this is a common occurrence, as we have been there twice now & it hasn't worked both times - so we caught a bus up there - exact change required - took ages & very hot - no air con! So we jumped in taxi on way back - much better & quicker!

It is worth going thou - just be aware that there are some steep steps up to the Buddha - gets tiring after a while.
