O/S Daily Thread Monday 18th May 2015
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, cloudy, overcast and raining steadily, it's very wet underfoot and water is laying everywhere so it looks like it's been raining most of the night.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly, so he can get ready for school.
Dinner last night was clear up of the items from the fridge that didn’t get eaten over the weekend – turkey escalopes, burgers, pork pies, scotch egg, salad, pasta salad etc, there wasn’t very much of anything so had to stretch it but everyone ended up with a decent meal. Remembered to get the chicken pieces out to defrost so they’re safely in the fridge now, I’ll be serving those with mash, veg and gravy.
The weekend was lovely, and although windy the sun shone most of the weekend, I went shopping with my friend and her daughter on Saturday and then DH cooked a sweet and sour chicken dish on the bbq using our big paella pan and it was delicious. DS2 and DH then cooked the brekkie on the bbq yesterday morning. We also put up one of our awnings that we paid a lot of money for but it just isn’t very easy to put up and we’d decided that if we struggled with it again we’d take it this weekend, put it up, photograph it and then put it up for sale, but a friend had one the same and said they’d struggled with it the first few times but then it was fine, so that’s why we tried it again this weekend and we managed to put it up without too much difficulty so we’ve decided to keep it and not sell it, it wasn’t cheap. We’re taking it on our summer holiday as it’s lighter than the other big awning. The people that won the smaller one that we’ve advertised on ebay came yesterday evening to collect that, so that’s a bit more decluttering done.
Taking some annual leave this week, as we’re going away on Thursday, so have quite a bit to do, wanted to get all the washing, drying and ironing done today but it’s raining steadily and forecast is the same for tomorrow, so will just get it done and put in the TD. WM did get fixed eventually on Friday, so at least no more sitting in the laundrette.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone :hello:
It's extremely wet here this morning, poor hubby has gone off to work grumbling under his breath because he can't use an umbrella as it's very windy too. The girls are getting up and having breakfast and I'm freshly showered and dressed ready for an appointment at 9.30 to have some bloods done at our local surgery. My eldest DD is going to take me as she has to get her dressing on her arm changed too.
We had a nice weekend with the grandchildren staying, they are such funny little characters and bring so much joy with them. I didn't make it to church for various reasons so I just had a relatively quiet day at home. Hubby cooked a lovely roast chicken dinner and I will make the leftovers into a curry for tonight with rice and poppadums.
The washing is piling up again so will get some on today and then I am going to get my knitting out and make some more mermaids as they seem very popular. There are a couple of toddlers in church so I will make a couple for them. It is good for me to have something to do in the day or else I get quite lonely. I've also bought a mindfulness book to work through. I am not sure, I think it might be a bit hippy-dippy for me but I will certainly give it a go.
Well, that's all from me for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning one and all. We have the rain with us this morning after a not-too-bad weekend. Had another visit from DS yesterday morning with puppy Roxy. It's to get her used to us and our house for when we need to dog-sit her! She's a cute little thing and still at the crazy stage charging round everywhere.
Yesterday was another day that didn't go to plan! The "simple" job of removing the old hob and replacing with the new one didn't turn out so "simple" after all! We struggled for ages trying to feed the new lead up through the wall to the power point but it wouldn't co-operate. In the end we had to chisel away at the plaster to feed it through. So there lies another job - replastering and bodging on some paper to patch it up! It's currently hidden behind the kitchen roll holder and will probably be like that for weeks!!
Meanwhile the promised jobs are mounting up and I really must tackle a pile of ironing today. Unless it stops raining the general tidying up of the garden will be postponed for yet another day! Nothing will get done tomorrow as it's Mr TA's appointment at St James in Leeds for his next injection. These months do roll round quickly. After his next one in June (the 6th) he has his scans to see if they are helping halt the growth. It will be a stressful time awaiting the results.
Not much cooking to do today as quite a bit of yesterday's chicken left. Maybe a sandwich with hm soup at lunchtime and the rest with some salad and baby roasties this evening.
Have a good day all, hugs to those in need, take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all
Thank you nmic for getting us going this morning
Lashing down with rain here as well so nothing will be done outside today. I have the bathroom to clean and Himself has a little touching up job to do on the bannister upstairs which seems to have a couple of chips of paint off.
We have chicken joint for our evening meal with sage & onion stuffing, roast and mashed potatoes, frozen broad beans and fresh carrots. Himself will have a couple of yorkies with his.
He is still in bed at the moment because he had a bad night, therefore I did as well:eek: I don't know whether he was dreaming but he makes some very peculiar noises and he can never remember in the morning.
Dumpling you sound good this morning, it's amazing what grandchildren can do for you, hard work but such pleasure as well, and knowing that you had something to do with that.
Elona take it steady today, one thing at a time. I am glad you had help with the bed I remember when you had to move the mattress topper upstairs yourself, I don't know how you managed it.
Have a good day all despite the weather

DUMPLING - I had never heard of mindfulness until one of my recent hospital visits (when white coat syndrome sends my BP sky high) and one of the nurses mentioned it. She said it has really helped her calm down but I have yet to look into it. Thanks for reminding me. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Morning all,
Bit overcast here and looks like rain later, I am at the other site today and rain means busy ! So better get myself prepared this morning.
Dinner tonight will be spaghetti with a mixture of mushrooms with truffle oil and parmesan with salad, looking forward to it.
DD coming tonight for the night as her house mate is away and she is not comfortable staying there on her own.
My sis moved a load more bits into mums house yesterday most of it is in now, just the big stuff to go in, will do a bit more over next weekend.
Right better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Have just woken from a very deep sleep. I was awake briefly at about 6a.m. and nodded off again. Still got the spider on the ceiling, he / she wanders across the ceiling, I suppose hoping for flies.
My efforts to lose weight are beginning to pay off, slowly. No massive noticeable difference yet but things are looser and I could get my watch on last night. So I shall stick to the porridge and evening meal. Cut out the booze completely too which was so much easier than I expected it to be. Shows that the nightly glass of wine was just a habit. No sugar either. I've gone hard core this time, all this 'don't deprive yourself of anything' just doesn't work for me. All (the packet of biscuits) or nothing. Got my trip to Oz to focus on.
So it's porridge this morning, I beef it up with banana, chia seeds and sometimes blueberries too. For later I've got salady stuff.
Did a mini spending spree yesterday so OH has a few assembly jobs to do this weekend! I got some overpaid tax from my pension provider today, the payroll staff hadn't received a new tax coding from HMRC when I retired / relaxed at the end of March. And now ithe repayment has been put to good use.
Right, now is the time to do my ablutions.
Has anyone got Halight on FB? Is he OK? I often wonder if he is still getting better.
Anyway, hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Morning all, rain lashing down here , yuk. Back to front day for me as normally I'd be at work by about 7 after dog walking, but have Dr at 9 so having a gentle start, getting various jobs done and a leisurely breakfast for a change. I have quite a walk from the car park into work later so I hope the rain eases off again.
Elona and LW hope you are both feeling ok this morning, take care x
Mindfulness (or just being rather than always doing) is definitely worth trying, probably just a new name for what various cultures have always done but it make sense whatever you call it.
Think I'm going to have to dash and pack some extra clothes to take in case I get soaked as it's not looking good out there.
Take care all x0 -
Good Morning everyone although it's anything but good as far as the weather is concerned. We too have a very soggy and windy day. It's forecast to pass through by lunchtime and the gardens will be happy about some water even if we aren't!
I'm popping in to the city on the bus this morning to pick up a couple of things for DD1 who I'm going to stay with next weekend for the last choral society concert of the season in the Cathedral which I'm looking forward to so much. They are singing a piece I love which is Parrys 'I Was Glad' oh so beautiful and uplifting! I don't think I'm needed for Zebra again this week DD2 said yesterday he was almost completely OK now and he'll be able to go to nursery this week so all well there.
Nothing needed doing in the house other than the daily tidy and dust and vacuum so I can go off on the bus with a clear conscience!
Have yourselves a good day everyone and stay dry if you've this rain, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning chums looking decidedly grey outside and the rain will be here shortly, still it saves watering the gardens so the meter will be better off
:):) I always look for a positive side to things
:):)
Had a nice day wandering first at Westgate where DD and I and the boys had lunch, then we went to Whitstable where I steadfastly didn't buy any fish from the open market there(so fresh its almost still wriggling) although I wanted to as I have quite a bit still in the freezerhad a nice cuppa and the Horsebridge center then came back home to son-in-laws roast leg of lamb dinner
Brought some left over cooked veg back with me last night which will be used up in tonights dinner.
Right time for breakfast and my 'morning mile '
Have a good day chums what ever you are doing
