Why Is This Board So Judgemental?

If all we posted on here was the 'good sided story' we would be in danger of lulling people into a false sense of security.
On the other hand personal insults (there are many) have no place on these forums.

Yes, some posts get very judgemental, yes there are some trolls who deliberately wind people up, yes there are some claimants who clearly maximise their benefits in dubious ways, yes there are some posts that stray into discussions around policy rather than offer specific benefits advice.
In the main, most posters get really fast and accurate benefits advice.
I think this forum is an eye opener that shows the utter complexity of the benefits system which has grown arms and legs since its inception.
It highlights the fact that sadly we are a high housing cost/low wage economy where successive governments have failed to tackle low private pension income, under supply of affordable housing, high child care costs and the lack of secure living wage.
It also shows how human we are - the way many claimants are incentivised to act in certain ways and adapt themselves to get rewarded with state benefits because they don't feel they get much return from working 10 or 20 hours extra per week because their employment income just gets stripped out with child care costs, steep loss of benefits, travel costs and taxation. All the dismal 'self employed' businesses that tax credits encourage, etc.
It also shows why, to a certain extent, changes in state benefit provision have caused changes in society - for example, the boom in lone parenthood since men are no longer the breadwinners they once were and the state has taken over responsibility for keeping children out of poverty. Another example is the huge increase in Incapacity Benefit claimants once traditional industries and manufacturing died off and the govt wanted to disguise true unemployment.
So we get to see the victims of govt policy here and those that think they are victors because they have found ways of getting a steady income from the public purse rather than from tedious, low paid, insecure employment.0 -
I've discovered there are some downright nasty people on here. On the flip side I've had some excellent advice. Some people need to remember the old adages- 'don't judge anyone until you've walked a mile in their shoes' and also 'let he who is without sin cast the first stone'

Why, when Martin says this, are posters allowed, for example, to threaten to report someone ...........
Its about helping people get their entitlement! Not about benefits policy!
This board is here for help and support for those on or looking to claim benefits, not for judgement.
It’s ONLY focus is helping people with their money.
It's here to help people find out what they are entitled to under the current system, and to help them get it.
Benefits provide a lifeline for many, and this site is here to help people with their money, and not to judge. Of course, how to illegally defraud the benefits system shouldn't be discussed here, but ensuring you're getting your entitlement is exactly what it’s about.

If someone post something that opposes someone else's views, then it should not always be deemed to be offensive.
Personal attacks are a different matter, and are not acceptable in any way shape or form, and have no place in this forum.
The way things should be summed up in 2 paragraphs. Just a pity we have a sad, spiteful minority who can't operate to those guidelines.0 -
