As it's probably going to be eligible for a free upgrade to Windows10 soon, the Windows7 laptop has probably got a longer life ahead of it, and will be nicer to use than the Vista desktop.

Thanks, but it seems it's already activated.

I clicked on Start then right click over properties, and scroll to the bottom, it says Windows is activated.

It most likely pulled the key from the BIOS

It's not UEFI or Windows 8, so no.
