  • Hi mate, not sure how you are getting on with this but just thought I'd share my thoughts for what it's worth as my situation is very very similar.

Okay so you've done the new bank thing which is a huge step or at least it was for me. I could see light when I did that and it was easier than expected.

Budgeting is okay but we're a similar age and income/expenditure is similar but the things we spend on differ. Budgeting is okay but I found it hard to stop things I love doing. (When I did mine people told me to stop going to football matches. Ain't gonna happen)

I found it easier to break down the 600/month you have left to days. works out at say £20 a day. If like me you don't spend £20 on say two thirds of the month then you will be fine.

Speak to Stepchange. That was a huge turning point for me and I now feel so much better for doing so. They put me on a DMP, some may see that as drastic or whatever but it works for me and that is the main thing. Find whatever works for you and go with that. The DMP is perfect for me as it's all in one manageable payment and I know it's getting sorted.

You don't need to put all your creditors into it if you don't want to either, I haven't put in things I don't struggle to pay eg. car so that's not in my DMP.

From what I've read your in a good position, you've contacted a new bank and are seeking help. Just stick to it. I still find it hard sometimes but I'm in a much better position than I was a year ago and even though the DMP looks bad on my file I'm happier and actively sorting my problems out.

Hope you can get onto the right tracks mate.

    All the best

Agree that step change or Christians against poverty (you don't need to be a Christian to call them-amazing charity who help anyone and offer a lot of support- particularly if you have mental health probs etc) are prob best- they can negotiate on your behalf with creditors, removing a lot of this stress.
