Data Subject Access Request (DSAR)

Hello
I have a question about DSAR - here is my tale:
Once upon a time I had two credit cards one with Tesco Bank and one with Cahoot and I remember being told I had to take PPI with one but I'm unsure which.
I do not have the paperwork for either card but using Noddle I have the dates of the accounts (both closed in 2010) and the last four digits of the card numbers. I have not changed name, address or anything else.
I have phoned both companies:
Tesco state no record of account or credit card - despite it being on my credit file with precise dates.
Cahoot gave me the runaround via santander and the special complaints line and said they would 'look into it with another department and write to me' - they haven't written.
I have read the guides on here and I am thinking of using the template letter for closed accounts and submitting a DSAR (before the 6 year window closes).
When others have done it have you just included the cheque for £10 payable to the bank? Or left it out and waited for them to request the money?
Please can anyone offer any other advice?
If this fails I'm considering using a PPI company.
Thanks a million!

Send a tenner with each DSAR otherwise they may just ignore it.
Why? They can nothing you can't do yourself and you still have to provide all the details. They just stick a stamp on the envelope for you and drop it in the post box.If this fails I'm considering using a PPI company.0 -

A CMC cannot magic info out of thin air. They use the same process you use.
If you dont believe they are telling you the correct information then spend your £10 and do a data subject access request.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Thanks for that.
Cheques payable to Tesco Bank and then for Cahoot who? Santander PLC I imagine?
I'm so certain that I paid PPI that if I got nowhere with both I figured I had nothing to loose by trying a CMC and letting them go through exactly the same process to 'double check'. As long as it doesn't cost me anything...0 -

The whole complaint process is designed to allow the consumer undertake it, its simple and easy. If you are not succesful yourself a CMC will not be either, as said further up the thread they have no magic powers or special databases they often claim they do. Also I'm pretty sure you can't complain twice once you have had your final decsion.

Thanks Marty - I realise they don't have special powers but there is something nice about engaging a PPI company for, perhaps, a fruitless cause.
That said I'm sure PPI companies don't really bother anyone else, I love my weekly phone call from a stranger with whom I can chat about the wrongs done by banks, so maybe I should try and then throw in the towel if I don't get anywhere.0 -

As much as CMC baiting is fun particulary with the telephone calls, I often answer "Good Afternoon, Met Police Fraud Squad". Which is greeted with silence and the gratifying click zzzzz... of a dead phone.
Be careful putting in a second claim and make sure your not putting yourself into a fraudulant position and be mindful some of these CMCs are not nice people and they may try and enforce some of there most ludicrious and in some cases unfair T&Cs.

The problem is I definitely remember having the accounts, and being told that I had to have PPI for one. They are both in my credit report, but when I have called the banks (I don't have paperwork or account number) they cannot find the accounts.
I wish I'd kept the statements, I am much more organised than I was when I was a wee whipper snapper, but I don't have them and if the bank can even find the accounts for me then its not really a claim.
I wouldn't claim for PPI, then post rejection start a new claim. I'm just angry that details of my accounts have 'been lost' and we are still within that six year period.0 -

One can have all sorts of fun, I vary the Police Force, sometimes Manchester I sometimes answer with 'yokel' accent and say Lincolnshire or Shropshire Police Fraud Squad and ask the most stupid of questions to the gullible minimuim wage call centre workers, its amazing what information one can get back.
