Does anybody know Mansfield, Notts?

Kirkby-in-Ashfield or Sutton-in-Ashfield are just outside of Mansfield - easy to get to by bus or train (Kirkby). Kirkby is reasonable for house prices too and if you get the right bit you could have a good view of the old quarry area (now lovely rolling hills where I regularly go to walk)
It might also be worth looking near the Robin Hood line - the train line that links Nottingham to Worksop.
Obviously every area has its bad places - you really need to know by street I guess to be sure but definitely look at the Ashfield areas which also include Annesley Woodhouse, Kirkby Woodhouse, Newstead - I could go on.
Areas I don't think are good personally are Skegby and Stanton Hill and the Ladybrook estate (but then again I am sure they have good and bad parts too so please don't be offended anyone)

We moved up from London 6 years ago, first moved to Shirebrook "Cough" after that found a nice house Between Sutton and Huthwaite (Nice easy drive to Mansfield). Area is great but houses have gojne up a lot in the last few years, 3 Bed Semi with Countryside views £75000 4 years ago is £130000 now.
So not as cheap as it was,
like anything good and bad areas, look around and spend some time here, if you need M1 access for then the Ashfield Side is ideal (Sutton/Huthwaite are 5 mins from the M1 Jnc 28) in Mansfield itsself you have a longer trek to the Motorway network
Really does depend on what you need, what side of Mansfield work is etc.
But view it all with an open mind and am sure you eill find something great.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -

Although I moved to Derbyshire 8 years ago my parents still live there, I would recommend looking between the Sutton Road(A38)/Nottingham Road(A60) areas and Berryhill/A617 areas, as an ex-mining and hosiery town there are a few council estates around with mixed reputations but as another poster has said peoples experiences may be different despite what 'reputations' areas have. I now rent in the Derbyshire Dales area and suspect rental prices here are at least 20% higher than in Mansfield but travelling there takes approx. 30 minutes if your friend prefers a more rural location.0
