We need a weeks' break so last minute we ( 2 adults 1 child ) have decided to find a cottage or apartment from the 22nd/23rd May ( Yes I know..two weeks time ! )
Anyway we have found some in Sidmouth, Brixham, Fowey and Dartmouth
I was just wondering if anyone has any reviews on these places.
We are used to staying in places like Mevagissey, Looe etc so ideally we dont want it too noisy just a nice harbour, some nice shops and of course cafes !
Any help would be appreciated

I think Dartmouth would be your best option, and if you have a car, you can get to Brixham in abut 30 minutes.0

Ask the board guide to merge your threads.
If you like Meva you will enjoy Fowey. Brixham doesn't have the same charm and Sidmouth is full of old folk. Dartmouth is beautiful and would be my choice if I didn't like the Meva/Looe feel you will get in Fowey.0 -
Dartmouth is lovely.Sell £1500
2831.00/£15000 -
My vote goes for Fowey, stunningly beautiful. Charlestown, St, Austell, The Eden Project, The Lost Gardens Of Heligan nearby. You can catch the passenger boat to Polruan from Fowey, or take the car from Fowey/Boddinick. There's plenty for the kiddies and loads and loads of stunningly beautiful beaches.0

We discovered Woolacombe Bay a few weeks ago, the beach and views were stunning. Not sure if theres much to do for kids though as we stayed on the beach.

Instow is quite nice too.

Ok Ive narrowed it down to
Fowey
Lyme Regis
Dartmouth
We tend to like harbours, cafes, craft shops..my daughter is 13 but likes the seaside shops as well
Any advice0 -
There's not a lot to do in Fowey. Half an hour's walk round and you've done it. Try to go inland more than 200 yards and it's a steep hill to nowhere. Round town the pavements are narrow/1-person wide and at pinch points you have to squeeze against the wall. Not like Looe/Mevagissey at all in that respect, which have a lot more options.
Rather than Fowey, I'd suggest Falmouth - more to stand and stare at, more shops, more options.0 -
Thanks for that. I was just about to book an apartment on fowey as I had heard it was lovely but it sounds like it is too small for us
What about Dartmouth ?0 -
Some attractions I would recommend in and around Dartmouth:-
-National Trust properties at Greenway and Coleton Fishacre
-Dartmouth Royal Naval College
-Dartmouth Castle
-Harbour and river tours
-About a 30 minute drive, (using the ferry), from Torquay
-Dartmouth & Paignton Steam Railway
There also Slapton Sands, Salcombe and Bigbury on sea to visit, all within 40-45 minutes.0 -
Ok.. I've plumped for either Dartmouth or St Ives
Can anyone tell me anything about St Ives...
Thanks0
