Asbestos Garage Roof

The roof containing asbestos is not a danger in itself. Why do you want to disturb it? I believe it is only if asbestos is broken up the dust is hazardous. If its just in the roof it's not dangerous unless you're planning to do something to it.
The main reason we think we should remove it is because the garage timber is rotting and worried about it collapsing and didnt think we would be able to find someone to repair the garage so its safe.
Do you think this is an option?0 -
Refurbing an option?0

It's difficult to say but basically if you can leave the roof untouched then there probably isn't a problem having it there. If the whole structure needs knocking down then you'll need to look into it further, perhaps discussing with a local builder to get a quote.
How do you know that's what it is? Sometimes a surveyor will suggest it could be, but not state for sure, for !!! covering purposes.0 -
Where are you based?
Im getting mine removed next month and had some quotes, between £400 and £800, but most were in the region of £400-500.

I took off the roof myself and when I laid a new shed base....hey presto its all gone.......
Living in the country, with an authority that accepts all kinds of waste, but now at a very expensive rate, I feel that this kind of solution is bound to rise.
£3.50 for a bag of plasterboard? Not on your nelly! Into a cement mixer with an equal amount of soil & stones and, as you say, hey presto, instant soil conditioner, but perhaps not for the veggie garden.
I'm currently looking at a pile of old, smelly loft insulation and wondering what to turn that into. Some kind of hypertufa perhaps?0 -

I know plenty of builders who would just insert new timbers or an RSJ without a second thought in a case like this.
What's hard about supporting a garage roof with a couple of acrows + scaffold boards while new supports are inserted? We did this recently with a house roof, so a garage is a doddle.0 -

Ye I will have to see if I can find someone to do a qoute. The roof it self looks ok bar the muck on top of it from where she has neglected it.0 -

Ah, her indoors....;)0 -
We have a single garage which had an asbestos flat roof and our builder replaced it and took away the old roofing. Cost was £1200 all in but I think nearly £500 of that was for disposal.
The timbers were fine though so not sure how much more it would have been for that to be replaced at the same time.0
