Petrol Range in Vauxhall Vectra seems low

The range figure operates between the instant/average/tank readings so does take a while to settle into something sensible, but if you were only getting 20mpg out of a 520, perhaps it is just new car lead foot?
As I said, it's more a case of the range indicator being inaccurate rather than actually getting a low consumption. I'm generally more careful in a new car rather than lead footed
One thing the 520 taught me was to alter my driving style to maximize the MPG. I guess if I did loads of motorway driving, the 520 would've been fine and would've got to 25-28mpg but I spend most journeys to/from work stuck in traffic jams.0 -

I think that's your problem - rather than the car.
Even a moped get's 0mpg if it's stood still.

alter my driving style to maximize the MPG
I think driving habits are probably quite a major factor in MPG figures, I used to do the "drive around in highest gear possible" thing, until I got the OBD2 scanner. Now i've realised that labouring an engine in a high gear, actually uses more fuel than thrashing the nuts off it.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

A 520i will never do more than 25mpg. A 523/525/528/530i are all much, much better.
Most I ever saw from a 520i was 23.
I would imagine a Vectra 2.2 would do early 30's.0 -
I beg to differ, while my Wife has been able to drag a 520 down to 23mpg (similar to 523, 525 economies) even she hasn't got it down to 20mpg, and same cars, different drivers, will range from 27-35mpg without a great deal of effort.0

A 523/525/528/530i will get very easily into the 30's.0
