Petrol Range in Vauxhall Vectra seems low

You need to reset the MPG part of the trip computer. It uses the average MPG data to "guesstimate" how far you can go on the remaining fuel.
If the MPG is down to 15 because it has been run whilst standing, or used for very short journeys it will think you need £30 to go 83 miles.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

What happened to the BMW 520i auto I told you to avoid?0

My range indicator is similarly useless. It is convinced it cannot go further than 299 miles on a full tank. Only remotely useful when it gets below the 60 mile mark or so. Although on the other hand a conservative estimate is always better than an optimistic one.0

Had a Omega 2.2 and the Throttle body gets very dirty, take the big pipe off the injection air intake and clean it out with carb cleaner, then check the breathers are not blocked, if they are new hoses if they can not be cleaned.
This can almost double the MPG back up to what you should be getting.
They run very rich if the Throttle body is dirty or blocked breathers.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

If you ignore the temp gauge, the first you'll know about an overheat is when your engine seizes solid!
Up until a couple of week ago, I had 2010 Seat Ibiza 1.6d. It doesn't even have a temp gauge.0 -
The engine management light isn't on, is it?0

Thanks for all the replies.
I've been keeping an eye on the engine temp over the weekend and it's not moved from 85-90 once the car has warmed up, so that seems ok.
I've also done just over 50 miles since putting the £30 of petrol in and it's still telling me I have 124 miles remaining so I think it's just a case of the range indicator being completely useless.harveybobbles wrote: »What happened to the BMW 520i auto I told you to avoid?
Sold the BMW because it was too uneconomical. Lovely car and the guy that bought it obviously knew alot about cars and he said the engine was perfect, but I couldn't afford to 20mpg I was getting

The Omgea 2.2 Auto Estate we had did 22MPG when the Throttle body was gunked up and breathers blocked, some new breather pipes, an oil flush and the throttle boddy cleaned right out and it did 31 MPG, not a lot, but it was Auto.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

The range figure operates between the instant/average/tank readings so does take a while to settle into something sensible, but if you were only getting 20mpg out of a 520, perhaps it is just new car lead foot?0
