Or just tell Windows to boot to the desktop instead of the touch interface.Have you tried swiping the touch screen back from the left.
Personally I would install Classic Shell which makes the whole setup much more user friendly.

Yep, sounds like you're hitting the Windows key accidentally, and bring up the Start 'menu', just like any other version of Windows since 1995. Difference is in 8, it's full screen. Hit the Windows key again to get back to the desktop. Or you can also have a 'Tile' for Desktop, which I keep handy at the biggest size.0
