Any Win 8.1 experts? difficulty"escaping" from some screens

My new laptop runs win8.1 and has a touch screen. Periodically I hit the keypad in the wrong place and it displays a Tile which completely fills the screen with no visible means of escape (no back arrow anywhere at all)

I can swipe the "charm" icons in from the right but there is no back arrow there either. And just lately I am getting pestered by a bloat ware ad (preinstalled by the manufacturer) with no x exit button. Anyone else had this problem on win 8.1 And solved it. want to share.?

Does the screen you're referring to have various tiles and icons on it? If so that's the start screen and pressing the start button should take you back to where you were or holding the windows button and D should take you back to the desktop wherever you are.

Ctrl + Esc works for me on 8.1.
    Move along, nothing to see.

No what happens is that I am looking at a specific screen and move my fingers over the touch pad to move it around and inadvertantly touch some other option (don't know how) but then it activates a large tile window to another app or option which then occupies the entire screen with no escape/ back arrow option. Alternatively an ad pops up that does the same thing with no x exit option.

If you touch and hold it then drag it to the bottom of the screen, then wait until it does a spin, it should go.
If it doesn't,I would also download and run Malwarebytes to see if you have an ad bug on there.

Can you post a picture as I'm having trouble working out what screen you're referring to. The Windows + D button should take you back to the desktop regardless of what application is open so I can't understand what screen you're in that the shortcut doesn't work with.

If {as I understand your question} you mean that say you want google search but the weather app comes up and fills the screen then move your mouse pointer to the top right hand corner of the screen and the red close cross will come into view, just click on that and it will close that app.

OK here is an example. I click on the charm Settings and then PC Settings and it displays a screen to change my settings but there is no way to escape from that screen or go back a screen . Swiping the mouse up to the top right has no effect.

Similarly a couple of things I have looked at previously are now saved as tiles and occasionally when moving my fingers on the track pad I accidentally activate one. It brings up the entire tile to fill the screen and there is no back/escape arrow and swiping to the top right of the screen does not work either.

Get rid of tiles, set it to look like classic windows, enough of this "windows for retards" business.

Have you tried swiping the touch screen back from the left.

Personally I would install Classic Shell which makes the whole setup much more user friendly.

Swiping to top right isn't a gesture which is why it doesn't do anything.

You can always press the windows key to bring up the start menu, its like an any Apple iDevice in that regard.

Swipe in from right to left : open charms bar

Swipe in from left to right : Switch full screen app, if you swipe back out again it will show you all running full screen apps (same as WinKey + tab)

Swipe in from top all the way to bottom : close current app (can you use alt-f4 as well)

Swipe in from bottom : opens the full screen app menu

There 4 are the main gestures.

In windows 8.1 if you move the cursor (using mouse or touch pad) to the top of the screen to give you the close / minimise buttom
