w810i SMS setup?

Hi, I'm on an Orange contract and after a water related accident replaced my handset with a Ericsson w810i which I bought on Orange pay as you go then put my Orange contract sim into it.

I'm rather puzzled as I do not seem to have the option to send an SMS/text message? I have MMS, push messages and email.

SO, whenever I send an MMS it's treated as a photo message which not only do I have to pay for since it's not covered in my contract bundle but my wife then cannot read it as her phone interprets it as a photo message depsite the lack of photo!

Somehow I need to enable/setup my handset to be able to send SMS messages...

That's just the trouble, there is no option to put in a message centre number as there is not SMS or text message option on the messaging menu. It's literally like SMS is not an option on the phone at all.

Already went through the manual that tells me to select the text messaging option that isn't there.

hmmm,is the phone brand new?
tried a master reset?

It is new but i've used it for a month. Not done master reset as surely will reset to the same as when I got it, i.e. no sms option.

Have you tried calling Orange? my W810i works perfectly on orange, I did exactly the same thing, popped in my existing orange SIM and binned the one that came with it. Worked fine both before and after unlocking too. I did need to call orange to set up MMS and GPRS though.

All fixed now.

I tried the forum as I'd failed to get through to Orange on 3 separate occasions (gave up after 15 mins).

So this evening I called and stayed in the queue for 35 mins and got through. The guy seemed to know exactly what to do and sent a magic settings message that automatically updated my phone for me.

So now I have the elusive missing SMS option!
